Microsoft announced today that Windows XP Service Pack 2 is now available to the masses. However, Downhillbattle.org is reporting that Microsoft is only making 2.5 million copies available per day to cut down on server costs. Considering Microsoft’s vast server power, the anticipated volume should be enormous.
Will this experiment succeed? Technologically, it is succeeding much like any other BitTorrent distribution. However, Microsoft could easily turn around and state that it is not available for public redistribution. Hopefully, Microsoft will provide us a statement on this which we will pass on to our readers.
