Go Suprnova - Improving BitTorrent

During my usual search for P2P news, I headed over to P2PForums.com to see what was stirring. The headlines touted an interesting piece of software called "GoSuprnova." The program's homepage claimed that it would alleviate much of the procrastinating nature of SuprNova.org, the excellent torrent link site.

As many know, Suprnova.org is the crown jewel of the BitTorrent network. Without its existence, many doubt whether this community would even be able to survive. Even more interesting, despite its enormous popularity, it has managed to evade the copyright industry. While it has remained very popular, this has come as a mixed blessing.

Quite often, especially during prime time, the site will often grind to a snails pace. In addition, the search feature will often be frustrating to use. How does one overcome such problems? This is where GoSuprnova comes into play.

The software almost instantly accesses the Suprnova torrent database, and organizes the available torrents according to media type (movies, music, games, etc.) Much like a P2P application, the software is easy and quite simple to use. After testing the software along with BitComet, it was clear that this is a great addition to the BitTorrent community.

Edit: The good folks at Suprnova.org have a different take on this program, as they feel it could harm thier community. Suprnova admin SimbaK2K articulates this concern:

"It really shouldn't be used. Not only does this application sound buggy as hell, its not in anyway supporting suprnova. Anyone whos been around long enough to remember sites like torrentse.cx know that bittorrent is a game of survival of the fittest. Most sites recieve warning letters, cant stand the bandwidth, cant afford to run, and so on. Suprnova is a one of a kind, with its own design, a huge unique database, and a lot of support behind it.

If the support drops, so does the site. Ads fund the mirrors, and bandwidth costs are high. If all the ads are removed with a third party application, suprnova loses its income support. Although income isnt the only thing keeping suprnova running, donators, moderators, admins, uploaders, mirrors all help, but with this particular app, it would also waste a hell of a lot of bandwidth. So nothing good comes from this app, and it really doesn't help the site.

May it burn in torrent hell."
