Newzbin - once the premier NZB indexing site, has officially
closed it doors. This appears to be the end of one of the most highly regarded NZB indexing/search engines.
It's been a rough few days for indexing sites around the web. The Pirate Bay has it better of course - it seems just about anyone with enough bandwidth and thirst for headlines will host them. But Newzbin doesn't have any such advocates - they're pretty much to rot where they stand. After an unsuccessful bid to proclaim their innocence, they were found liable for copyright infringement.
After the trial, the site remained online. The logic was, since the complaint was specific to NZB files that pointed to Hollywood movie and TV content, the site would continue to exist in a more copyright friendly state. This lasted for about a month, until today.
Apparently, Newzbin is in serious financial turmoil. Newzbin is
linking to a site that explains just how serious things are:
"Apparently Newzbin has been put into administration yesterday because it couldn’t pay its debts. Word is that they owe the MPA £230,000 just in interim costs, and that’s without a full costs ruling or a decision on damages. Apparently they also owe a software development house over £500k. They also stopped taking payments a few weeks back. Fucking ouch."
Unlike The Pirate Bay, Newzbin probably will never been seen or heard from again. What about its massive NZB index and the code that runs the site? We'll leave that to fate.
