It's going to become increasingly more difficult for users to effectively employ Newzbin, as the site is starting to manually filter NZB reports from appearing. That means fewer resources, but at Newzbin says, there's good news and there's bad news.

The good news is, that registration is now open to everyone. Also, anyone with a premium account will have their credits frozen - so no matter how much times goes by, you'll always have premium access to the site.

"The next hearing in court is mid April. Until then we are required to implement a default policy of blocking movies and TV reports. These will need to be manually authorised by us before they are published. This is cumbersome and, we appreciate, deeply unwelcome. Rest easy that it is temporary and will only last until we can get into court or until we implement a less onerous automatic filter.

"As of now registrations have been enabled - You will no longer need an invite to signup for a new account."

About the premium accounts:

"In view of the, temporary, greatly reduced functionality of the site for many users we are freezing the credits of premium users. Any credits you currently have will remain at their current amount until further notice."

Hey, that's pretty cool, right? But you may be asking yourself, "Ok, that's kinda cool - but what value is left in the site?" Did you forget about Newzxxx.com?

Newzxxx.com is the twin sister of Newzbin.com - also a Usenet indexing site. But here's the big difference, none of the content that was disputed in the recent court case exists on this version of the site; it's all adult material (aka porn). We're left to wonder exactly what will become of this site, and whether such filtering measures will be taken by the Newzbin administration on this portion of their site. Since it wasn't in dispute, we're inclined to believe it will continue to exist. But since the flood gates have been opened in the UK against indexing, anything is possible.
