Ares Now Supports BitTorrent

Why make your own P2P network when you can just rely on BitTorrent? That appears to be the growing trend these days, as more P2P developers are realizing the BitTorrent community is simply too large and resourceful to ignore. LimeWire was the first major outside P2P development team to support BitTorrent, and now Ares Galaxy has joined the fray as version 1.9.4 now supports the protocol as well.

Ares is no stranger to switching protocols. During its earlier days, the project was a Gnutella client. However this was back in 2002, when the Gnutella network was a struggling community. Frustrated at the poor quality of the network, developer Alberto Treves devised his own network - Ares Galaxy.

Like LimeWire, Ares' support for the protocol is rudimentary at this time. However it works well enough and gives a glimpse into what the file-sharing landscape may look like in time to come. You can download Ares Galaxy here
