Since late 2005, the TorrentSpy team has been working on the addition of game demos, patches, and shareware to their torrent index. It is all part of an ongoing effort to move the site away from users who are solely interested in torrents for unauthorised distribution of copyright content.

“Our primary goal is to be the most comprehensive file search website on the Internet,” Justin, the owner and administrator of TorrentSpy, said earlier this month.

Despite being served a lawsuit by the MPAA last week, TorrentSpy are determined to continue as planned.

“We are legal so we are just moving ahead as normal,” Justin told Slyck News.

TorrentSpy have added nearly 10,000 authorised torrents, supported by 60,000 peers, to their database and plan another 100,000 over the next fortnight.

isoHunt, who are also recipients of an MPAA lawsuit, are trying to work with content owners as well.

“We are working with a TV show producer. We will showcase their torrents, just as the MPAA can do if they want to work with us,” Gary, owner and administrator of isoHunt, told Slyck.

But unlike TorrentSpy, isoHunt do not plan to go the whole way by introducing filters.

“We already have filters, but not search filters, we won't have it. That's called censoring.”

However, Gary believes the site still fully complies with copyright law, as covered by the DMCA:

“They identify items of infringement (torrents), we verify, and remove. That's how DMCA works.”

Financing a court case and convincing a judge of this goodwill and legal opinion will be an entirely different story.
