Third Round of Threatening UK File-Sharing Letters

Which?, a UK based consumer affair organization, is reporting that yet another round of threatening letters are being received by Britons. Typically, these letters were associated with Davenport Lyons, then ACS:Law. But now there seems to be a new player, Tilly Bailey & Irvine LLP. It's a new name, but apparently, the same game.

As many file-sharers know, the UK is a double-edged sword of file-sharing. On one hand, OinK's administrator and owner was found not guilty, yet on the other, thousands of individuals have received monetary demands from Davenport Lyons and ACS:Law. These demands have been the source of much anxiety and outrage, from the average citizen all the way to the Members of Parliament.

According to Which?, the new round of demands ask to pay a hefty sum - 700 pounds to make the issue go away. From Which?'s website:

"Which? has been contacted by a number of people who have received these letters accusing them of illegally file-sharing pornographic material copyrighted by Golden Eye (International) Limited.

"The letters, sent by Tilly Bailey & Irvine LLP (TBI Solicitors), take a similar tone to those previously issued by ACS Law. Copies of the letter sent to us by one Which? reader states: 'In the event that payment or undertakings are not received within fourteen days of the date of this letter, we are instructed to commence proceedings without further notice.'

"The letter requests £700 in damages and costs."

Which? doesn't specify who Tilly Bailey & Irvine represent, but we've sent a followup and hope to have more to report soon.
