Newzbin Usenet Trial Adjourned For Two Weeks
February 10, 2010

Newzbin has been reporting a rather ugly picture in the courtroom in the last few days. One of the site's administrators, Caesium, fell ill on the witness stand during cross-examination, while the scant updates indicated a rather hostile court environment. But finally there's some positive news for Newzbin.
Keeping their post brief, Newzbin has decided to regroup and hire more lawyers. The legal situation probably turned out to be more overwhelming than anticipated, but their request for an adjournment was approved by the judge. From Newzbin:
"[Brief update for obvious reasons. We feel it is important to keep users up to date with events in court even if the MPA do try to use the news & user comments against us.]
The MPA resisted Newzbin's application for an adjournment so we could hire extra lawyers. They failed: the case has been adjourned for a couple of weeks while we instruct fresh counsel. We expect closing submissions in very early March."
It's not surprising the MPA tried to resist - this at the very least buys Newzbin valuable time.
