Top 10 Suprnova.org Alternatives

Postby JiMiThInG » Mon Nov 01, 2004 6:27 pm

Anyone who knows much of anything about Bit Torrent or probably even file sharing in general have heard of and are familiar with Suprnova.org. It for all its faults and problems is probably the top “hashlink/verified download” site on the net right now. Its without a doubt owes some of its success to sites that have came before it like the once famous eDonkey2000 hash link site ShareReactor.com.

This Top 10 List is only meant as a general guide to some of the possible alternatives. It is meant to generate discussion and fights over sites that could have been included but where not. So hopefully everyone finds a useful link or two out of this list. Its might not be the case for some of Slyck.com’s more veteran BitTorrent users. If that is the case feel free to let us know if we excluded a link from this list. Enjoy!

#10 <a href=http://bt.etree.org target=”_blank”>Bt.etree.org</a> No Registration Required

One of the top torrent links is even 100% legal. This is a music only site that allows fans to trade recordings of live concerts from certain bands. All the bands you will find here actually allow their fans to record and trade these shows. Very neat if you’re a fan of any of the included bands. Ben Harper, Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band, Greatful Dead, Guster, and Phish are a few of the many bands you will find there.

#9 <a href=http://www.torrentreactor.net target=”_blank”>Torrentreactor.net </a> No Registration Required

This site has something for everyone, no matter what country you maybe from. It lacks the depth of content that some of the larger communities do, but has been around for a long time as far as torrent sites go. It is open to just about ever kind of file. Worth checking out for sure.

#8 <a href=http://www.torrentbits.org target=”_blank”>Torrentbits.org</a> Registration Required

This site is great, and could very easy be listed much higher. It’s a great source for 0 day stuff. You will find just about everything here. The reason for its low listing is the fact it requires registration, and limits the amount of registered users. Not visiting the site for a period of time will usually result in your account being dropped, and you having to sign up again, and with the limiting of the number of registered users allowed this can take awhile of refreshing to get a spot.

#7 <a href=http://torrent.youceff.com target=”_blank”>Torrent.youceff.com</a> No Registration Required

Cool site with its content broke into nice categories. A must have on almost anyone’s torrent bookmarks.

#6 <a href=http://www.code9-group.org target=”_blank”>Code9-group.org</a> Registration Required

A great source for movies, while they to also have music, and TV shows. This is home of “Code9-Group” While not a “true” group they do really good recodes of released stuff. It’s the best place to get “screeners” since they shrink them down to fit onto 1 CD with no real quality loss, and they can still play on most DVD players.

#5 <a href=http://www.lokitorrent.com target=”_blank”>Lokitorrent.com</a> Registration Required

Another great source for torrents of every kind. Files of any kind can be found here, and being one of the more elite torrent sites speeds tend to be great. Any torrent fans list of B.T. bookmarks would not be complete without a link to lokitorrents.com

#4 <a href=http://www.p2pforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=6726 target=”_blank”>P2PForums.com</a>

#BT-GM Mirror. P2PForums.com hosts a semi official mirror of the downloads provide by the great IRC channel #BT-GM on EFnet. Right now these releases of 0 Day DVD Rips and Games are only available on their official IRC channel, besides this thread. Always know that these files will be of the best quality and in demand.

#3 <a href=http://www.tvtorrents.net target=”_blank”>TvTorrents.net</a>

One of the top torrent sites on the net. These guys pump out all the newest TV Shows each night in high quality with in hours of them airing. The only reason they loose out to their EFnet rivals #BT is because they tend to be a few minutes behind them on releases. Official webhome of #tvotorrents on EFnet

#2 <a href=http://www.btefnet.com target=”_blank”>BTefnet.com</a>

The best place for TV show torrents bar none. This site has torrents of all the newest releases in high quality format before anyone else. Have been doing there thing for some time and are damn good at it. The official net home for the IRC channel #bt on EFnet

#1 <a href=http://torrent.hackz.nl target=”_blank”>Torrent.hackz.nl<a>

This site doesn’t actually offer any torrents, but it’s a great collection of all the best torrent links out there. This is a great starting point, and maybe even home page for all torrent fans out there.

http://www.uknova.com is another excellent site, which although requires registration, is easy to use and full of present and past UK Television programmes

#5 Lokitorrent, that site works with Suprnova.org. Any torrent made with the lokitorrent tracker uis automatically sent to Suprnova.org
Loki is actually a admin on SNF.

Lokitorrent doesn't automaic send uploaded torrents to supernova, you have the option to choose if you want it sent to suprnova. Thats how its worked for me anyhow. Wait till Loki gets their mufftorrent site up. That will be the number one site!

http://elitetorrents.org It requires registration and also tracks how much you upload and download (to encourage people not to leech). I like it. I found out about from a torrent on Suprnova. Sometimes if a torrent is new and I can't find it on Suprnova, I can find it there.

BTW, thanks for the list. :)

There is actually a previous news piece with a list of BitTorrent links, but it lacks nice things like rankings and in depth descriptions.

How about the search engine which indexes all these sites? You can sort by name, size, seeds, etc. so you can easily find exactly what you want, on the largest torrent swarms.

on the topic of torrent sites that track your usage, anybody else getting sick and F*KING tired of having to register your IP NUMBER and a valid email account before you can download illegal material? WTF is up with that?

anyone who releases torrents that are IP# restricted and/or RAR password protected deserved to be b*tch-slapped and hung up by his nut sack. totally goes against every principle of P2P. but its their loss. those torrents die off quick (few seeds/peers) and usually someone who believes in P2P re-shares that same torrent on a public tracker a day later.

do NOT register your IP # and email with these forced-registration sites. if we all boycotted them, they would give up being so anal and go back to private FTP land where they belong.

my 2 cents. excuse my language.

my contribution to this list:

http://mvgroup.org/ - great site (for ed2k and torrents) of educational video downloads (BBC programs, discovery channel, nova, pbs, etc...)

http://www.fileheaven.org/forum/ - not sure if they still allow membership, but they dont track your IP. just use bogus email to register. have tons of rare movie collections, as well as music and games too. 90% of their forum posts have both torrent and ed2k links, as well as great discussions about the files you're searching for.

and lets not forget http://www.filesoup.com/forum/, another free registration forum-based torrent site.

one more:

http://www.bt-gm.com/index.php?act=list

you cannot download torrents files directly from here, but it gives an up-to-date list on all released games/movies/software/TV shows from #BT IRC channel, the place where most 0-day stuff originates from. If you're familiar with IRC, they give you the trigger to start downloading the torrent file from their IRC channel. if you're lost by the words IRC and trigger, you can still use this site as a guide to find out whats new and recently released, and then search for it on suprnova or isohunt.

for Firefox users: click on the Google symbol in top right, go down to ADD ENGINE..., then click on 'File Sharing' category, and you can add both SUPRNOVA and ISOHUNT to your Firefox quick-search. IE users, become jealous by this amazing Firefox feature, and go make the switch. ;)

Image

EDIT: correction, TV Shows from #BT channel are posted seperatly, on this page: http://www.btefnet.com/, and the TV show torrents are downloadable straight from the website.

Indeed. My search engine of choice.

http://www.phoenix-torrents.com
Nice bittorrent forum, nice community, dedicated tracker and releases, and a dedicated section for high quality movies. Worth the try.

If you can read chinese, you will love this site. Don't worry about speeds coz the chinese have pipes the size the scandinavians have!

2 of the best torrent sites

Postby ReconRedneck » Wed Nov 03, 2004 1:29 am

Digital Update http://www.digital-update.com
and Phoenix torrents http://www.phoenix-torrents.com
are the best hands down.. If you can't find new releases with these two, then they just aren't out yet.
Code-9 has their own site but I am just investigating since they left Phoenix, but they always have connections to early releases.

A great Suprnova mirror I found was http://www.donvitorrent.com

Doesn't have all the pop-ups, ads, and other computer-invading crap that Suprnova throws at you.

great post. jimi! :D

just wondering, could anyone add non-english language sites to that list? It would be nice to have a reference for those of us looking for files with other nationalities.

Haven't been very lucky in finding nice sites, though (perhaps because I didn't search too hard, either). Mostly terribly slow to load, or very poor in content, or subject to legal hassles... :(

FYI

Torrentreactor.net seems to be down for a few days now.

2p - I keep running into a few Spanish sites (I think...?? :D ) ... would those help??

Since I can't read it though I cannot confirm or deny if they are scammers...but all of the linked torrents I have gotten from them have been good.

Mine is "BT123". I didn't really care for a username and to chat on their forums. I just signed up to get a few movies here and there. Yes, I noticed you once when linked to a thread on TB. Seems you are into pr0n. (jk)

Great article. I was very glad to have discovered Slyck back when I was trying to get my head around all the p2p technologies out there. I always point people here when they ask me "so what p2p software should I run..and what the hell is the difference between them all?"

Not sucking up...just expressing my appreciation. :)

Anyway...now if only I could get someone to "invite" me so I can check out Torrentbits. Anyone throw me a bone? :P

Just a simple thanks....Slyck.com is a great stop for all things P2P....

I've been spreading the wealth of knowledge along to others too. This article is very good because a lot of people don't know where to get torrents other than suprnova....thanks again

Hey all!

Maybe this is just another suprnova 'clone' (the torrent content is very similar...) but I like the slyck design:
