A year ago, the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) announced its rate determinations for what record labels and digital services will pay to music publishers, but now those rates have been finalized after being reviewed by the Register of the Copyright Office.

With its publication in the Federal Register today, the parties that participated in the rate proceedings now have 30 days to file an appeal.

The rates cover from 2018 to 2022 and as previously announced include a headline rate increase escalating to 15.1 percent of revenue from 10.5 percent of revenue.

The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has on many occasions applauded the rate determination and today its president and CEO David Israelite posted on his Facebook page that his organization, in conjunction with the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), fought hard to make those rates happen.
