Weekly BitTorrent Lawsuit Update - 10,951 Does Sued, Many Freed

Postby SlyckTom » Mon Jun 13, 2011 9:17 am

It was a busy week for P2P litigators, who in total filed 14 copyright complaints against nearly 14,000 alleged BitTorrent users. But in the same breath, we can report that just because these cases are being filed like wildfire, they can also be shot down just as easily. Last week, the Nude Nuns case against 5,865 alleged infringers was dropped. In addition, the judge in The Expendables case has frozen the discovery phase against nearly 23,000 John Does, after giving the US Copyright Group a verbal lashing on the slow pace of progress.

Slyck covered most of the lawsuits as they unfolded last week. The lawsuits were unusual in that many contained a large number of John Does per case. These types have been shunned in the courts with at least the US Copyright Group, but we haven't seen much resistance in the porn cases so it remains to be seen how the courts will react in a larger jurisdiction like Illinois. Let's break it down.

June 11th, we ran an article about 2,996 John Does facing litigation from newcomer Zero Tolerance Entertainment, while Pink Lotus Entertainment sued just 53.

June 9th, Slyck reported Discount Video Center's suit against 5,041 John Does, while Patrick Collins filed against 2,590 unnamed defendants. New Sensations, Inc. filed a lawsuit against 1,474 Doe defendants.

On June 8th, we reported Hard Drive Productions sued 87 alleged infringers, while Pacific Century International sued 34.

And finally, today, June 13, we report on a four additional complaints filed. On June 9th, Hard Drive Productions filed a complaint against 30 unnamed defendants for sharing "Amateur Allure - Violet". Additionally, Liberty Media Holdings filed 2 separate complaints, one against 2 Does, and the other against 22 Does for sharing the the gay adult movie "Down on the Farm". Lastly, and this one must have slipped through our keen copyright eye, but Third Degree Films, an adult movie producer, filed a complaint against 3,577 Does on June 7th - the movie in question is "Busty Office Milfs 2". You can read the complaint here.
