Ever heard of a client called 'BitRoll'?

Postby CoolAssure » Wed Dec 06, 2006 9:11 pm

Hi everyone,

Recently there has been a lot of users coming on to the Mininova forum and complaining about a BT client called 'BitRoll'.

They say the client is malware and has caused hassles for them.

They have had to install this client in order to gain a password for a rar file that they downloaded, most have said the file they downloaded turned out to be fake anyway.

Most have had trouble removing this client from there system due to the 'sponsor'-ware that was installed along with the client.

I'm not even going to put up a link to the home site of this client as when I visited it within a few seconds of being on their main page it automatically went to the download page for the client not even giving me enough time to read the main page. I did note that the main page said the client contained no spyware, contrary to what everyone has said.

I've asked the nice folk over at stopbadware.org to investigate the site and the client if they can and to let me know what they find, it's a handy site that's got over 400 reports on suspect sites and has helped stop malware sites and progs in the past.

I'm bringing this to your attention as everyone who has installed this client has had trouble with the 'sponsor'-ware popping up ads whenever they open their browser, they have all recommended that the client should not be installed.

When I did a 'Google' search for 'bitroll client' I found that apart from the complaints on the Mininova forum that there are a few BitTorrent sites actually recommending this client on their sites.

I have searched Slyck to see if there had been any mention of this client and found no mention of it and as I trust Slyck and the members who use it I thought it best to ask if anyone knew of this client and what they have heard.

Using passworded content as a lure goes back a long way, and that seems to be what BitRoll is about. http://forums.torrentspy.com/showthread.php?t=37130

Cheers for the 'bumps' & the reply, much appreciated.

I'll pass on what I find to the others on the Mininova forum.

Once again thanks for your help.

Passworded public file-shared RAR's always suck. Only the reason why they suck differs.

I'm wondering why the File-Sharing Place linked TorrentScan appears to endorse such a piece of shit. Indeed, many torrent sites also appear to do so. No fuckin morals
