Hays man faces suit over music file-sharing

Postby zbeast » Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:24 pm

Story : http://www.kansas.com/mld/eagle/news/lo ... 682481.htm

This is another random lawsuit filed by the RIAA. The interesting thing is rather than just filing the lawsuit, they send it out to the person's local news paper as a 'press release.' What, are you now trying to use shame as a way to prevent file trading?

Federal Lawsuit?

Postby IFeelFree » Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:31 pm

I find it humorous that the newspaper article refers to the action by the RIAA as a "federal lawsuit". Since when did the RIAA become a part of the federal government? (Maybe the distinction is a minor one in this brave new age of the American Corporatocracy?)

Gonzalez could not be reached by telephone, and records show he has not yet been served with the lawsuit.

Under federal rules, the RIAA has 120 days to serve the lawsuit to Gonzalez before it can proceed with the case.

I'm glad the RIAA scum annonced it this way, if I were gonzales, I'd take a trip to mexico. good thing he has lots of music for the trip

If that happened to me, I'd take advantage of the publicity the RIAA was giving the case and twist it against them. I'd point out the fact that they don't always check who they are suing before they sue them. The RIAA sues people without Internet access, people who don't have computers, dead people, and surviving family members of those dead people. And then I'd point out the extortion tactics the RIAA uses against people who don't know they can defend themselves or can't afford to defend themselves.

The more people they sue, the more likely they will be to lose their lawsuits along with any countersuits. As people learn they *can* fight back, the RIAA will be facing steeper uphill battles. And I long for they day when they sue another multimillionaire. :-D
