Perspective: The Ten Commandments of fighting software pira

Postby LaX » Wed Jun 21, 2006 10:46 am

Story : http://news.com.com/2010-7355_3-6086062.html

Unwitting consumers at times get duped into buying pirated software online. This results in substantial lost revenue to the true developers of the software while consumers get stuck with subpar applications.

P2P prayer

Our father, who art be a pirate
Filesharing be thy name,
From edonkey it'll come,
Or bittorrent its from,
On computers as it is on trackers.
Give us this day our daily copy
And forgive us, our leeches
As we forgive those who leech against us.
And lead us not into court
But deliver us from the mpaa
For thine is the backup
For ever and ever
Framin

Also i like this part:

Please, someone, explain how a pirated copy of a porgram can be subpar? Its a fucking identical copy, thats the whole point of pirating it. Having the exact same program, but without paying the outrageous prices some companies charge. Its not like the pirate rewrites the code to make it kind of simular but not as good. The only way it could be subpar is if the original program sucked balls and then i think your well within your right to go get a cheap / free copy.

Well they have to say SOMETHING that makes it look like there is a difference in a "pirated copy" and the "original software"....lest the public see the REAL truth that there is not and drop the "official" copies like a hot potato!

Frank: Yeah, God's name is Harold.
Col: How do you work that out.
Frank: Everybody knows that, Col. Our father who art in heaven, Harold be thy name.

You wont have the pleasure of buying a discounted upgrade.
When the new version comes out because you have a pirate version.
tho... Then again who buys pirate software???
I get all my software and software tools "digitally Imported".
So that price is hard to beat.
Most of my money is spend on books on how to use some of the more complex applications.
Ha you say. If your using the pirate version then you
wont get manuals. Have you ever read the manuals that comes with most software your better off with the 3rd party manuals.

The BSA also wants testimony from individuals who will be asked to provide their own accounts of how they were lured into purchasing pirated software online.

"lured" by those evil pirates :?
Be suspicious of products that do not look genuine, such as those with handwritten labels.

Do you mean Microshite havent got a bunch of elves handwriting Windows XP on every disc?
Software piracy runs rampant in some countries

Really?
Btw is a porgram, a pornographic application

The disadvanatge of a pirate copy is that you find out how subpar the software is without paying for it. I've reviewed quite a few application packages on amazon that I gave one or two stars after trying the pirate copies.

What about how much more money they get?

How many time have users been forced to upgrade.

I still use Win2K (except for a laptop I bought recently). I was very happy all things considered until I bought a new DVD-RW drive. Of course, my burning software (Roxio v5 which is the last version I liked) wouldn't work unless I bought an upgrade so I had to switch to the included Nero which is fine except it has a different set of quirks. We like the software we've learned to use because we can work with (or around) it's quirks. I expected at this point a CD/DVD-RW drive to be plug and play for simple burning tasks but for some reason new drives aren't supported in these older software versions. I could understand no support for new features such as sound minimizing and such. It just seems like a forced upgrade.

I could come up with a dozen examples this was just the last one to bite me.
