Corrupt Files

Postby Pendragon » Wed Sep 21, 2005 1:29 am

Need a little advice Downloaded an album with Grabit, the files came down in .rar format, used winrar to unpack, it informed me that 11 out of 18 tracks were

'Bad CRC file corrupt'

Is this repairable and if so how ?

Thanx

OK I already have Quickpar - maybe I'm not using it correctly ?

The files downloaded from Newsbin - 13 .rar files + par2 files.

The 13 .rar files were supposed to create 18 music tracks when unzipped.

7 tracks were fine Winrar says 11 tracks bad CRC, file corrupt

What do I do in Quickpar to try and repair the corrupt files

Find the .par2 file, right click it and choose Open With ...., browse to your C:\Program Files\Quickpar\QuickPar.exe and select it. Make sure the Always use selected program to open this type of file box is checked.

When you first open quickpar this way u should get an Options box popping up, make sure repair automatically is checked and OK that.

Now whenever you double click on .par2 files quickpar will deal with them, the info provided by fernandose will then be all u need.

OK Quickpar opens

Where it says 'add files' I presume I add the damaged volumes ?

Do I then hit create ? (creates more par2 files)

Or something else ?

Can't find anything that says repair

Quickpar says the files are repaired.

Winrar says the files are still corrupt.

That happens sometimes for reasons I am not sure of. I've had it happen to me before. CRC (Cycle Redundancy Check, I believe) is a method of data verification. Apparently either the RAR files were poorly created, or the file integrity was lost in the translation to and from text for news server posting. I don't know of any way you can fix the above yourself, so my advice is to find whatever you're looking or elsewhere. Sorry, man.

LANjackel

Many thanks for your reply

I was starting to think there was something wrong with my versions of Quickpar or Winrar
