Swedish Broadband Provider Must Block The Pirate Bay, Court Rules

Postby sunnyd » Mon Feb 13, 2017 12:56 pm

Story :

A Swedish court of appeals has ruled that a broadband provider must block its customers from accessing file sharing site The Pirate Bay, overruling a district court ruling to the contrary from 2015.

In November 2015 Stockholm's district court judged that copyright holders could not make Swedish broadband provider Bredbandsbolaget block its customers from accessing The Pirate Bay, a decision then considered a landmark ruling.

But on Monday, Sweden's Patent and Market Court of Appeal decided that the ISP should be forced to prevent its customers from accessing the website, as well as streaming site Swefilmer, through denying access to specific domain names and web addresses.

Bredbandsbolaget head Jonas Jegerborn called the verdict a "surprise" and insisted that putting it into practice will be a technical challenge.
