Audio Codec Problem?

Postby solostar666 » Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:08 pm

Hopefully this is in the correct area and someone has a solution for me.
I just finished reinstalling XP Pro on a laptop (Gateway MD2614u) and I have no sound.
Clicking on Sounds and audio devices properties displays :no playback devices

Info from Sisoftware sandra onboard devices: conexant cx20561 audio codec sound adapter (disabled)

I can't figure out what to do to get audio to work.

Thanks in adavance

You could try looking in the BIOS, see if its disabled there some reason.

I looked in BIOS and can't see anything that would indicate a problem with sound.

Thanks though ;)

I had the same problem..If I'm thinkin right..your soundcard needs that smartaudio 221 thing and another microsoft thing both just to run one single soundcard. To make a long story short, I couldn't get mine workin either after downloading the microsoft(can't remember the name) sound thing and installing smartaudio 221. I had to use windoze update to fill in the blanks as it were and it decided to work.. Thats about my only idea..go to yer system properties in the device manager/control panel and try lettin windoze update find somethin. This machine is also a laptop in case yer wonderin..Sorry I couldn't be of much help..just an idea tosser is all *shrug*

I would suggest going to Gateway's website and downloading the driver/s from them. They usually have the Conexant audio driver/s on there.

Try this one perhaps,
Or go to their main page, type in your serial number, follow the directions for drivers and downloads needed.
