Doesn't sound like a fanboy Paladwyn. He brings a good point. Macs are used heavily in production and are the choice of many artists. Versatility is not always the most important feature.

There really isnt anything you can do in Mac's that there isnt a good professional and semi-pro program in windows. Most graphic designers etc use Macs because they either just think they are better (a throw back from ye olden days when macs probbaly were for such tasks), or because they are exactly the kind of people who would worship at the nicely designed white alter of Steve, even if it costs more or isnt as powerful as a PC.

Sounds exactly like one to me, what did it for me was saying that XP was the worst OS ever, thems fighting words...while it is true that alot of graphic designers use Macs, that alone doesn't make them the best.

While versatility isn't the most important, it needs to be taken into consideration. When talking about the best OS in general, you have to put preference aside and just take a look at the facts. There are a few other things that brings MAC OS down, their security is a few years behind, the number of machines it can run on are limited and the price of the machines are very expensive, alot more difficult to find somebody to fix it should it break, unless you are more of an advanced user your number of programs is pretty much limited to your multimedia and web applications.

I don't prefer XP anymore, but I recognize it as a canditate for the best OS.

seriously, paladwyn - what were you reading???

here's what he said about XP. try reading what he actually wrote, instead of jumping to conclusions.

Windows XP by far is the best OS I have ever used.

if he's a fanboy, he must be a WINDOWS fanboy. :P

Yeah, what Fred said  . All I meant Is that Macs (OS X) have their uses. I agreed with him in that particular area, as the few people I know that are into production or compositing, prefer apple's software. Versatility is not for everyone. If someone only uses their mac for work (graphics and art stuff) and Internet activities, versatility is not going to matter to them. That was not meant as an endorsement though. He just didn't come off as a fanboy to me.

Fred thanks for pointing out that I'm a windows fan. I thought it was pretty obvious by what I wrote.

To clear things up, I can't stand using OS X.

Wow...I apologize very much...

It was 2:30 in the morning when I wrote it, with a bout of insomnia - I competely read that wrong.

I retract my statements and have my formal apologies there. Can't believe I read that wrong.

Too late, I think deep down inside you all wish you could own a mac. Thats why you spend so much time putting them down.

I've had the opportunity on many occasions. I wouldn't mind to have one though, just to use more...so I can see what all the huff is about, and then have alot more to come to the table with.

I used one alot at my old job, but it was a good thing my Windows machine was right next to it, only used the Mac for Flexware they were using for accounting and orders. Everything else I put to the PC.

In college (couple years ago), a biology friend of mine worked in IT got a mac laptop. I asked him , "Why did you get a mac?"

His response was, "Because it's more secure than windows, and easier to learn/has more available than linux." Rather than ridicule him and argue with his reasons, I passed the bowl back to him.

Then there were the theater dept. friends that edited video and images all day. I couldn't very well argue with the ones that said macs have superior video editing software, because I haven't done that on mac. I did argue about sound/image editing because windows has the same or equally good software for these jobs.

Ugh, then there were people like the dumb 'ho in the business dept, "I love my mac. I've had it for 3 years and never had a virus! It's so easy"

I'm not a hater on all things apple. I have my 1st gen ipod nano (trendy, yuppie, asshole badge). I'm not saying OSX is bad, I just don't see why people pay so much more money for a Mac/OSX...unless you are using it for professional video editing, and you can write off your ridiculously priced Mac as a business expense.

Even if I get could more pussy by carrying around a mac book, I don't think it would be worth it. I'd have to pick up a lot of mac sluts to make up for that extra cash I'd have to spend on the mac book.

MacOS is a viable alternative, the problem is it just recently became mainstream...which means it has some catching up to do. That is pretty much the only real issue for me. Is it superior for video editing? Well, Windows and Linux both have applications that can do the same thing - chances are almost identical to the Mac version. Then it comes down to the cost. I just cannot justify the extra cost on a Mac - period.

For video editing Macs have final cut studio which is a good editing software. Mac also has deals with most colleges that specialize in film production like The Art Institutes and Full Sail University (where i went) so you have to buy a mac book as part of tuition. Since they do this most new editors use a mac and don't realize that there are good editing software for windows.

The best editing software is AVID and is available for both windows and mac, but it is very expensive and needs a very powerful computer to run smoothly, in my experience most AVID systems run off windows OS.

Also, once you go mac you then are only allowed to socialise with other mac users, all trying to be more fashionable than eachother. Eventually you decorate your entire house in white transuscent plastic furniture and become allergic to anything not made by the hand of Jobs.
