Why call it eMule or eDonkey?

Postby Yozhno » Mon Mar 15, 2004 3:50 pm

Anyone know why the called it eDonkey and eMule? They are both two really random names? Curious to know the history why? Alright eMule is a little obvious since it came after eDonkey but still....

I think the name eDonkey came from 'electronic donkey' because, like a real donkey, it's good for hauling stuff, in this case files – eMule is simply a variation on that.

Probably because eOx (and eAss for that matter) look weird. :) Better to follow the "e" with a consonant.

edonkey2000 came first with a slogan like feel the power of 2000 electronic donkeys (not too sure on the reason jed chose a donkey ill ask him next time) but most likely for the reasons suggested above.

As for emule its becaused it was based on edonkey so they wanted a name associated to edonkey but a variant and as a mule is similar to a donkey they chose emule.

I think the reason jed picked eDonkey instead of eOx or eHorse is pretty obvious... Because its funnier. Although I really think that eLamma should have been considered.

heres why

Postby auto7890 » Thu Sep 28, 2006 12:13 am

well, its because they are both slow. It takes bitcomet
and bitTornado less than halve the time to download the same file.

True, but nobody is disputing that the network is slow. It may be slow, but it gets the job done and it has very rare files you cannot find anywhere else on the web.

That is why a lot of people don't mind the wait. But if you are REALLY in a hurry, use newsgroups...they max out your connection from the time you start until the time you finish your download of a file.
