Video Cropping software

Just wondering If anyone knows of a good program for cropping movies. Mainly I want to remove the black spaces from a few old movies.

What format are they in?

VirtualDubMod would probably be the quickest/simplest way if they're AVIs.

I would like to add a request. Anyone know of a good software that allows cropping of video while the video is playing. For example, you have a video of a horse race and the cameraman has a hard time keeping the horse in the center of the picture. You could crop the video down a notch and move the center of the cropping square around a bit as the video is playing to keep the horse in the center.

Is there anything out there like that?

For something like that NewzSurfer your most likely looking at very expensive industry-level software. It might just be easier to let that horse roam about the screen a bit.

After Effects will do this. It's in the Tracker Control,you can track/stabilize motion.

Avi, using divx codec.
Managed to get the crop, was giving me a "Compressor failed to start" message when using divx codec, (Ended up creating it uncompressed) But seems to be encoding fine now with an xvid codec.
