uTorrent broken

Postby HalOfBorg » Wed Mar 19, 2008 12:24 pm

My uTorrent v1.7.7 is broken. I launch it and it works fine, but after a few minutes it starts responding slower and slower. As in I select a torrent in it's list and it takes a couple of seconds to switch over to it.

Also, my internet connection slows to a crawl, even if uT is not DLing anything - at least as far as it shows me.

If I have it open with no torrents running, all is fine. It responds good and internet is fine.

I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing it. It's uninstaller deleted it's folder. If I try to re-install it it just opens - with my old settings and torrents intact. :pissedoff:

Sounds like a packetshaper is running on your connection.
thats the same type of profile that you would get if you have a Packeteer packet shaper playing
with your connection.

Yes, sounds like your ISP / network admin probably dumped a great pile of "Fuck you" on your connection. Try the forced encryption option.
Does it happen with Az, bitcomet etc, or just uTorrent?

I only have uT at the moment, will look into others.

I always run forced encryption.

If ISP is messing with BT, how would that slow down uTorrent's operation - switching screens/options, minimizing/restoring. Stuff like that. The program ITSELF seems to be running slow. And even after shut off uT, internet is still slow as hell. Until I reboot PC.

I always use the same port. Changing might help?

UPDATE

I DLd Azureus last night and set it up this morning. It seems to work fine.

I've been DLing with it for about ten minutes and all is well. uT would start the PC crawling in a minute or so.

The only thing I can't get to work is the speed test. Port tests are all OK, and it's DLing OK, so I don't care.

I even was able to load my uT incompletes, so I didn't lose any time. :)

Go back to the safe version 1.6 that still works perfectly well.

HUH??
I can't get 1.6 to work reliably anymore - trackers stop responding after 15 minutes or so. Using 1.7 this doesn't happen.
If you are still using 1.6 multi I suggest you try a newer version, you might find what you think is working fine can work a helluva lot better :)

Umm... LOL
Don't try to give Hal a link to the uT forums... he's not exactly welcome over there

Yeh - the ban IS still in effect - but just from my work IP and http://www.hidemyass.com/ works fine if I need it there.

And, as for the reason, the 'utorrent.exe' we DL from then is JUST an ordinary program. Except, now that I used the uninstaller in my c:\program files\utorrent folder to uninstall uT, If I try to re-install it, uT just opens and runs - using my old settings and with my torrents still intact.

Like any normal program that won't let me uninstall/re-install. I SUPPOSE I could just make a new folder and copy it in, but I'm one lazy banned A-Hole. :nopity:

And YES - that is all I'm saying on the matter, don't wanna open that all up again.

Utorrent's settings and such can be found by pasting this into start/run "%AppData%\uTorrent"
Without quotes. Then you can delete your settings file, and anything else you like.
