My laptop wont read my copied cds

Postby abou105 » Sun Nov 18, 2007 2:57 pm

My laptop will not read some copied cds that i make, if i burn a tv show to a cd and put it in to my laptop it will display it as a blank disc although it is not. I have an asus laptop, any ideas??

Only things I can think of:

-recording session is not closed
-cd drive firmware needs updating
-cd-r was recorded using UDF and your laptop lacks the drivers

dont forget sim mode many burner programs have a mode where you can do a dry run where it does not actually write to the disk and is just used to test the buffer response .

and maybe you left it in sim mode so try the dvd in another computer to make sure it was written.

Or maybe burned at a speed higher than the CDROM can read? My home DVD player hates DVDs that are burned above 4speed.

Poor quality discs would have been my first suggestion too.
Also (dependent on its age and mileage) that your laptop's optical drive might be getting old and feeble - worn out basically.

The best bet is to try other brand media and lower speed (4x for example).
But UDF issue might be here also..

Based on my own experience, these are usually useless.
