hundreds of .exe files in download folder??

Postby hrmafia » Tue Jun 01, 2004 8:34 pm

I've been running blubster for months with no problems. A few days ago something like 300 .exe files appeared in my download folder with titles like brittanysex.exe, americanidol.exe, etc. I immediately deleted them all however they appeared again. What the hell is going on??

You have a virus, get a good antivirus program like avg http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php and scan your whole computer.

You tend to get these virus from exe programs like cracks.

It's a virus! I had one that took my WinMX and turned it into a virus server! The virus I was infected with was called W32_BEREB.B, but here's what you do, go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/houseca ... t_corp.asp and take the free virus scan there, delete anything that shows up, and also go to http://www.antivirus.com and see if you can find the virus HouseCall pointed out by searchig for it, it will show all the instructions needed to delete it.

Yep, run Housecall online then get yourself some decent anti-virus software. I recommend NOD32.

NOD32 is a pain in the ass to crack, believe me, I've tried, but a great internet secrity package that I'm using is Trend Micro's Internet Security 2004, I got it off suprnova, but if it isn't there, then you can search P2P. Not hard to crack at all, but get a KEYGEN, not a SERIAL. Known crack serials will be blocked after the first time you update the software.

ZoneAlarm comes with an antivirus thing now - that's what I use. Anyone know if it's any good though?
[code:1]char str[20];
scanf("%19s", &str);
if (!strcmpi(str, "Hello, world!"))
printf("Hello, programmer.\n");[/code:1]

ZoneAlarm has gone to shit in recent releases, creating major problems for some p2p users installing it. Good alternatives are Kerio, and Sygate.

Also, Security Suite's as they're often called, aren't the best solution either. You're better of getting a deticated Anti-Virus app. One of the most recommended it NOD32, found at http://www.eset.com

Ooble wouldnt recommend using Zone Alarm with teh antivirus software.

best to use zonealarm without the antivirus stuff.

download best antivirus from http://www.avast.com - its free so its definitely worth it and doesnt take up too much CPU - unlike Norton!
...for everything else there's bittorrent! ;)

As everyone suggested trend micro will pick this up.

First time I read this, it took me back to when my aunt picked up a similar worm from winmx. She was like OMG, what in the crap is this? It was so funny watching here delete them and then reboot, only for the files to multiply even more. I couldn't stop laughing!!!

Not that its funny when it happens to anyone, but the reaction she had to it was priceless.
