If you are still that worried about it after all the reassurance you should probably reach back and unplug your computer and go outside.

Well, I trashed my eDonkey program, so that's the same effect as going out I guess...

I should explain--I am a tech consultant who relies very heavily on the internet. I also have a medical history of anxiety, which is why I get so worked up about things. I can't be without the net and if I can't do my work, well, let's just say I'll be even worse than I am now. Also Christmas is coming up and I always get really stressed this time of year; getting a subpoena in the mail would probably cause me to go bezerk.

I'm just really concerned that someone tapped into my incoming folder, but then again I have a Mac so perhaps that saves me a bit? (Nobody seems to know if the Mac version of eDonkey is less vulnerable)

I reckon this guy is decidedly dodgy. I don't think he's a scared little downloader at all, I reckon he's the scarer.

i.e. Media mafiAA infiltrator

Every RIAA or MPAA-sponsored cliché you can think of. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit if his purpose here was to scare the willies out of the less sophisticated, mass-readership of these fine file-sharing forums.

Or am I the paranoid one?

Multivariable, you've got it wrong, for better or worse.

I have no connection whatsoever to any sort of "AA" orginzation. I'm not trying to scare people at all; if anything maybe I'm just scaring myself.

I realize you guys are high on P2P and up until earlier this year I was as well. I couldn't find what I wanted on eDonkey after a while and so I put it to rest. Then I find a link to someone having an old eDonkey site and I went into the app, and you guys know the story from there.

But after that scare on the website, and a lot of browsing around, I've read up a lot on this file sharing stuff. I'm not too old--I still have a good ways to go in life and I don't want anyone to sue me. I've got to get through college and get a job, and I don't want any blemishes on my record or anything. So I am choosing to stop P2P activity and I deleted that "incoming" folder that I let all of my files accumulate in.

I respect your decisions to keep using P2P. Not a problem for me as long as you guys don't get caught--I'd hate to see anything happen to you guys, you've been pretty helpful throughout this and I respect you for this.

I'm still a bit scared about all of this, but I just remembered something. Before I clicked on that help button I saw that of the two eDonkey servers that I got connected two the activity level (as per that button that listed the connections) was zero. So I guess that makes me safe from anything. Also, being on for only one minute was probably in my favor.

Actually, in hindsight, I'm glad I got that link. As a computer tech, I now have an easy site to go to if I want to get the IP address of the machine I'm on for any reason. It also gave me a heads-up about downloading and I realize, at least in my beliefs, that what I did in the past was wrong.

I hope you guys can understand where this anxiety-stricken guy here is coming from now.

Any further explanations to any questions I have asked is much appreciated.

No bull, guaranteed.

Looks like I'm just one who sees things differently around here, that's all. But then again, I am a Mac user so I'm supposed to anyway as per Apple's old marketing...

I steer clear of movies and music since that SEEMS to be where the most lawsuits happen. With TV shows mostly seems to be 'nasty-grams' and you say sorry and go they go away. Mostly.

(I DO try to let things UL for a time - if there are not many seeds.)

For older TV shows and movies - Netflix is great.

this thread reminds me of one of your early threads

@Randa5, his advice is good, and zim's as well, it is coming from captin paranoia, and sir downloads a lot respectivly :P

NICE!!!

Another thought crossed my mind though. Would there be any chance that eDonkey site would use bots to trace the IP it just logged to the eDonkey network so it could look for uploading or even worse, snoop inside the incoming folder?

Actually they have logs of everything that has every been uploaded/downloaded on the edonkey network and they are in the process of cross referencing the logged ip's. So stop fretting your letter will be there soon enough.

OK, your just getting silly.
You can what if yourself to death.

What if they have ninjas
What if they get mp3 sniffing wolfs.
What if they use space satellites to shoot death rays.
What if this goes down on my permanent record.
What if downloading mp3's causes cancer.
What if all file trading news sites are really run by the Media Mafia and secretly collecting information on you. Which they will use later to squeeze you for money. OOOOOOOOhhhhhh Spooky!

If your really that paranoid it my be better if you stop using the Internet.
With the government trying to turn it in to a intelligence gathering device.
That's something I would more more worried about than media companys bitching at you about sampling there wares on the Internet.

Its hard to think that a pc tech guy could be so slow. i am no tech but any person indeed can understand that going to the edonkey site is not going to make trouble with the law. i also call bullshit.

will say this though--after all I read over the past few days (I think I've read over 100 webpages on this subject now!) I don't think I'll ever use P2P of any sort again.

But as for what I did especially in 2005, where I used eDonkey excessively, I guess that's all in the past now.

I am applauding myself for turning the corner and realizing that some file sharing is illegal (you file sharing guys can laugh at me all you want).

One final thing--my chances of being caught on eDonkey were the same in 2004, 2005, early 2006 as they were yesterday? And probably greater then because I had a lot more in a shared folder?

You Serious?

Gosh the first legit MPAA brainwashed child ive seen.

My first two infringment letters kinda sparked the p2p in me years back.
