New Xtreme 5.3 Beta 1 with protocol obfuscation

Postby Unbiased_Opinion » Sat Sep 23, 2006 3:18 am

Thought this may be helpful to a a few Slyckers.

I have been waiting on a decent mod based on 0.47c (besides ZZUL) and I am now testing this one again and it seems pretty stable for 12 hours running.

Changelog:
Code: Select all
xtreme 5.3 beta 1
- adapted all Xtreme features to Codebase 0.47c
- added calculation of obfuscation data to the bandwidthcontrol
- added option to choose the method how chunks are selected for downloading
+ Maella = traditional or zz = new in 0.47c
- changed: obfuscation icon is displayed for all clients which enabled it
- fixed an official bug in source-exchange (Xanatos)
- fixed few minor bugs

I think I should emphasize the fact that this is a advanced mod. Meaning not for beginners/casual users! For download purposes, normal eMule will do fine.

Yes. Hence the "few" bit. Figured I would post it since it's pretty big news to the "advanced users" who would like to use the new 0.47c features, not to mention the security related issue regarding KAD pre 0.47c.

During the pre-kad days, I found that Xtreme (and Maella previously, which Xtreme was based on) was the only mod suitable for dialup use because of its incremental bandwidth throttle and ability to save all sources when losing the internet connection (all too common for dialup). Unfortunately these features were abandoned when switching to the Kad-based version.

Before any asks what good is dialup for ED2K, I'll point out that I was after many files that were only kilobytes in size (not gigabyte-sized movies). But it still often took me weeks to finish 5-minute downloads. :(

it's nice to see that Xman puts out new versions so fast, especially after his long absence.
