There are a few alternitives but compared to maybe a year or two ago there are fewer.

But lets not forget, Bit torrent is more than just a network and it is rich in files.

Think it is time slyck users move on to pastures new

Not yet, gnutella is still an excellent source of music, and can be filtered for fake file searches (someone needs to make a site that has links to the IPs), Gnutella uses a smarter hashing system than kazaa so it less likely suseptible to fake files.

It will be nice to how gnutella and its users cope with this move.

Blow the whistle. The game started.

Simple use Phex for Gnutella. When you see a fake or download a fake use the multiple host ban. Results from these bad hosts will never appear in your search results again. Unlike Limewire and Frostwire which only ban one host at a time that has the fake file, Phex will ban all hosts with that same exact fake file. Phex also has better filters that can block fake files in your search results.

Thanks. :D

Groups did this for years on iMesh and it got old fast for many users and they moved on. Good ip blockers can do a wonderful job but still spoofs will trickle in every now and then. This is just the beginning for Limewire. If the past has shown anything , the watchdog groups will stop at nothing to discourage usage.

An interesting trick is available to catch the flooders if you can find the right search terms.

On winmx its possible to ping the search results, what good is this you ask ?

Well you set up a program such as commview and set it to receive ICMP only and run a search of the known over flooded term ( on winmx the search term "real no-fake" will deliver 100% fakes), you now fire off the ping and commview harvests the results, this provides you with a blocklist of the flooders IP,s.

you can of course use overlapping searches if its not possible to identify a 100% flooded term and use simple subtraction to remove innocent IP,s.

I hope this tip helps some one

Had a quick look at this...

72.35.231.* (on Fuzion colo)
216.152.250.* ("xeex.net")
71.115.204.215 (on Verizon)

At a guess it's Netsentry. Anyway just pop those addresses into Tools > Options > Filters > Hosts > "Filter Hosts" and things should improve hopefully. ;)
