Developing a website

Postby hereiam » Sun Apr 30, 2006 9:04 am

hey all...first post, long time reader. Anyways i've got a bit of free time and thought a good way to relieve my boredom would be to create a website. My computer and programming skills are limited...i've never really made a full on webpage ( except some muck about things), but have a some idea of HTML code...well maybe not the code but dragging and dropping  ...publishing it would be easy as i know all the ftp procedure's etc. It's the actual creation part i would like help on.

I was thinking of making something like a torrent/nzb site or something in that region, i know it'll probably get shut down, but i'm only a kid and am not that bothered as this would just be a learning experience for me. So...where do i begin? i'm thinking that it needs a database type..so php..and mysql would be in need???...any help would be appreciated.

Don't know much about websites, but it would seem that any website that integrates new Web 2.0 technologies (aka AJAX and the like) would be the way to go. I haven't seen any Torrent or Nzb indexers yet that have gone down the Web 2.0 route, so it might be something worth thinking about.

Get in touch with someone like JeffreyT and xinobit. Last I heard they were still in their torrent search development stage, though xinobit is a bit further ahead :P

Btw, when you meant kid, how old are you?

Also you could install something like XAMPP, and use that on your home pc for development and testing. It's a full Php, Mysql, Apache web setup.

Xampp - http://www.xampp.com

Web 2.0 is a buzzword for a load of technologies that have been around awhile, but are only now being fully utlized... learn more here:

It would cool to have some Ajax stuff. As for getting JeffreyT, you'll probably have to pm him and wait till he gets on slyck. xinobit only posted twice so he might not come here too often.
