Am I taking proper precautions?

Postby HalOfBorg » Wed Sep 28, 2005 7:01 pm

I am an old WinMX fan, from days of v2.6. I still run it from time to time, but the things I share are not music or movies.

Edited: Do not reference copyright works

I get my .torrent files from the sites recommended here, and I use the "Privoxy and Tor" onion servers when I go to them, and DL them using Download Accelerator Plus through the onion servers.

I can't get Bitlord to connect through them (being an idiot myself).

I run PeerGuardian 2.0 Beta 6b, and keep it updated, when DLing BTs.

Anything else I should do? Something to do different? Or should I get used to the taste of ant-acids as I await THE LETTER???

Seems like you're paranoia level is pleanty high enough  to keep you safe for now....

my advise....

Continue to keep yourself informed....ala read Slyck 8)

Migrate when pressure is applied.....

Buy your self a couple of 100+ gig external hard drives.

Get or use a dvd writer to "arcive" ( and hide if you like) your various data....

If you're this scared about only downloading 1 show....why not swim to the deep end and get anything you want......

Do a complete computer restore when ever you feel the need....

That letter, and your acompaining $3000-$7000 settelment sould at least represent $3000-$7000 worth on media don't you think?

some say the best defence is a good offence......

Oh - my paranoia is MUCH higher than this. I do have a DVD writer, and a very well organized archive.

A few friends even have copies of my archive. We get floods here.

what you download is the biggest factor..

star trek episodes... not too risky.. but i've seen a few people get letters over it so far...

for risk i'd guess...

music.. #1

movies.. #2..

tor is crap u dont even need it, as far as downloading your torrents from the web i wouldnt even worry about that. however privoxy works quiet well keeping you anonymous to the tracker. i recommend you keep that and pg2 running. but hey you never know.
