Just wondering if it is truely possible to post annonymously to Usenet?

Even if you use a SSL connection to upload from a VPN, the Usenet serive provider will still have records of your uploads/posting right? Can it be traced back to you via the X-trace in the header of each posting?

Appreciate if anyone has any thoughts on going about this.

Absolutely positively? .. I'm no guru but IRL I doubt it.

A couple of local high school asshats posted bomb threats to their _former_ high school. They had been kicked out.

I'm talking the web and (probably) several Euro/ Russian et al, anonymizers. I believe it took the FBI around 2 weeks to show up at their door.

Try this:
Subscribe to Jondo * THEN Install JonDoFox **

When you want to be *really* anonymous, then simply open "JonDo", wait until the window info tells you it is up and running; then open JonDoFox; THEN run an IP check from the tool provided.

Once you have confirmed you are from Bulgaria or elsewhere, THEN go to http://www.anonymouse.org and follow their simple instructions to post to Usenet, emails, etc.

* I use the paid for JonDo service; it is very inexpensive.

** Installing JonDoFox from JonDo's site gives you a very, very safe private browser which automatically hooks up to JonDo's proxy servers. The settings for best security are all taken care of in JonDoFox as compared to the normal Firefox browser. Good luck. (It has never failed me in 4 years.)
