need help with downloading movies from usenet

Postby bharat » Sun Sep 12, 2010 8:06 am

. I have an account with Astraweb. I have the newsreader alt binz. I can find a movie on and indexing site (NZB Matrix).

However after reading and watching the videos on how to download movies i still can not put everything together. Do I need to purchase Win Rar. Is Win rar absolutely need as a final piece of software?

Can anyone tell me where to go to get a simple and complete explanation from A-Z on how to download movies from usenet.

The videos on the Slyck are not complete enough for my understanding.

Thank you.

there is a free version of winrar, you don't have to purchase it.

Ummmm...

It can backup your data and reduce the size of email attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP and other files downloaded from Internet and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file format. You can try WinRAR before buy, its trial version is available in downloads.

The annoying nag screen...

I don't know what happens after 40 days. :pirate:

WinZip has an annoying nag screen too but I used the same "unregistered" version for years and it always worked. WinRAR might work the same way but I'm not sure.

I have used the free version of WinRAR for years. No nag screen and it works just fine.

Does "free" mean unregistered but it still works after the 40 days is up (the nag screen disappears) or is there really a free version? I can't find a free version offered on their site. If you say it still works after the 40 days are up then it's not really "free". You are using it illegally according to their EULA. I'm sure that probably everyone still continues to use it, just saying that it is misleading to tell someone that it is free when it really isn't.

There is a lot of confusion on this subject as it seems that after 40 days the outcome varies depending on whom you ask.
For example: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 233AA7bIwc

Overall, the opinion is that after 40 days you are using it illegally unless you purchase it. I don't see any WinRAR vs. John Q. Public lawsuits but that doesn't mean that they don't have the right to, and it doesn't mean that WinRAR is free.

Weather bug IS malware and has caused numerous issues on several pcs I worked on.

With 7zip, you are not able to wrap or pack files in .rar format, you can only unwrap or unpack them, but it does do both jobs for .zip files.

Off topic - Desktop weather from The Weather Channel is a great alternative, but it has been known to cause people to jump out of their chairs when it thunders for alerts....if the speakers are on high, that is. :)

I can't answer your main question, but if you have Alt.Binz you don't need WinRAR or 7zip or anything else, as Alt.Binz will unrar automatically for you.

Short answer..No. Download -
Grabit - Free - http://shemes.com
NZBVortex - $14.99 after trial - http://nzbvortex.com

If you are new to usenet, save yourself the time and trouble of unraring and unpacking files manually, both of these apps will do everything for you all you have to do is open the NZB you want and you are done. Although the usenet is complicated by nature it doesn't have to be.
