Is there a way to import existing newsgroup settings from Outlook Express to Thunderbird?

I tried to find an answer specific to importing newsgroup text/settings, but the answers were vague and most of them related to importing email. I did find this link if you have not already tried it.

Post questions in the "mozilla.support.thunderbird" newsgroup, available on Mozilla's news server, or via the web, using Google Groups.

Thanks for trying anyway.

It's incomprehensible that Thunderbird setup was able to copy my email settings (which are quite complicated) and ask if I want to use it as my primary newsgroup reader bur then choke on importing existing settings for the latter.

This is something Mozilla needs to address if Thunderbird is to be considered a serious alternative to Outlook Express.

Edit: Another problem I've found with Thunderbird is that it fails to update my IMAP folder to indicate that emails have already been read.

Import Your Outlook Emails Into Gmail With Google Email Uploader

http://www.labnol.org/internet/email/import-outlook-email-gmail-google-mail-uploader/2836/

If you would like to import all existing email messages and contacts from Microsoft Outlook (or Thunderbird) into your online Gmail account, Google has a free utility for you.

Called the Google Email Uploader, this Windows only tool will upload all your emails from Outlook into Gmail and also preserves the Outlook folder structure.

Of course I do! Also have a 486 to run it on and a 286 running DOS 6.2

Outlook Express is still good for reading text newsgroups and it at least updates my IMAP folder when I've read an email. I would prefer to use Thunderbird so that links open in Firefox but I don't want to have to update my entire posting history manually.

I'll elaborate. If I open the emails a second time in AOL Explorer they show as not having been read. That didn't happen with Outlook Express. An email showed as having been read whether I opened it in AOL or OU.

I've managed to fix the problem with previously read posts but now Slyck is displayed as text in Firefox. I have to exit Firefox and reload in order to see the frames and graphics on Slyck. Other websites aren't affected, none that I've visited so far anyway :?

That sounds like a problem with your Firefox cache. Have you tried clearing it?

Could be? Odd though that only Slyck is affected and then only since I installed Thunderbird a couple of days ago

Have now, thank you. Will see if it helps? :)

EDIT: Apparently it does :D
