Newzleech -- filter out .exe?

Postby qwoo » Sat Apr 18, 2009 4:24 am

http://www.newzleech.com/ seems to list a lot more fake (likely malware) files nowadays. For example search for "photoshop" (or some other well know software). I'm not sure if it reflects an actual increase in such malicious mass postings on usenet or if newzleech is worse at filtering out the crap. Anyway, is there some nifty search modifier to filter out all posts that contain ".exe"? Newzleech has closed its forum so I can't find a way to ask the dev directly.

click Advanced, set Min Size to 30 MB and 99% of the exe-spam is gone.

Doesn't work if you are looking for something small, so use with caution.

You could also use Binsearch.info or Nzbindex.com which both filter exe-spam a lot better than Newzleech does.

The modifier you're looking for is !, e.g. 'stuff !exe'

Newzleech forum has been down for months now, I wonder why?

Thank you! The modifier works well. I think adding a dot ( "stuff !.exe" ) gets even more precise filtering.

File size filtering would be more useful if it could be per filetype i.e. let through no files under 800kb except those with a .par2 .sfv .nfo .txt .m3u ... file extension.

That is indeed much better than mine :)
Didn't know about that one, so I just suggested a "ninja-filter" method :)
