Faster posting advice please

Postby monkeymanmoi » Wed Feb 04, 2009 4:17 am

Hello, is getting 55k upload speeds on yENC PowerPost normal? I have 8x that alloted through my ISP. I use Astraweb and Ngroups for uploading. Is it the NSP that causes the slow times? I have a brand new computer with good specs and a decent DSL setup (6m down, 400k+ up... okay, so that's not crazy fast up, but not 55k).

In the News Server properties, how many connections do you have?

400 kbit / 8 = 50 Kbyte

Sounds about right for DSL.

Nice one QM... yeah, I'd prefer cable, but there are reasons I don't have it. My DSL actually is 512 up. I have two connections going. Should I choose more? Definitely could have something to do with it, but that still seems incredibly slow with only two.

Test your upload speed here.
How fast does it read for uploads?
It shouldnt have anything to do with the numebr of connections in your newsreader client, they have enormous bandwidth available, i cant see your upload speed being limited by that.
I do think QM is right. If your speed is advertised at 6Mb/400Kb then your upload speed is just about right (ISP's sell in KiloBits because it sounds more than KiloBytes to the masses). 400Kilobits = 50KiloBytes.

:| I thought QM was joking. You just schooled me Fartingbob for I am one of the masses. I tested and it was 436k up so I guess I'm getting the upload speed I should be getting. Damn, that means people posting gig after gig have speeds that would make my head explode! haha Thanks.

Using more connections may increase speed, and unlike Yenc Power Post, some of the newer posting clients like JBinUp have no limit on connections.

Hey, that's twice as fast as my upload speed!

For best performance at your speed set YecPP to 4-5 connections, that'll remove all lag between the "sent packet recieved- send another one" requests as the extra connections will continue to max out your line.

How many articles are you trying to post at the same time?
