XLned growing to 220 days retention

Postby unregistered » Wed Dec 10, 2008 5:21 am

The last weeks have been painful for XLned-customers. While XLned has been working on their storage platform, there were lots of issues with speed and completion. Since a few a days everything seems to be fine again, and yesterday XLned finally dropped the bomb: with their new storage platform they will be going from formerly 60 days to 220 days of retention.

That's very close to Giganews' 240 days, but for less than half the price down to about 1/10 the price, depending on chosen speed and payment period. IMHO this puts some serious pressure on the other news providers. I just hope their new platform can cope with the large number of new users they're propably going to get.

They only recently had 60 days retention? Damn they were in need of an upgrade! Of course, by the time they reach 220 days (160 days or nearly 6 months) im sure most others will be even higher.

Not that bad on the pricing...but yeah, from 60 to 220...won't magically happen overnight I'm afraid. However, the service does look appealing, more so to Europeans than North Americans though.

They're a low cost provider. Some people download every day and don't need anything close to 60 days retention. At $5.70 a month for 10MB down (yearly account), they're really pushing it to go to 220 days. It's already at around 80, so the increase has begun.
