Weird Audio for Movies Downloaded with Newsgroups?

Postby brovash » Tue Sep 30, 2008 3:27 pm

I just started the whole newsgroups/Usenet thing. I have been getting some pretty good stuff off of here. However, in a few of the movies that I have downloaded, the video works perfectly but the audio just sounds like this low tone growling, as if the audio is super slowed down or something. Does anyone know what causes this, and if I can fix it, or do I just have to download another copy of the movie?

Thats the fault of who ever ripped the movie.
My guess is what ever encoder they are using did not fully strip out the DTS audio tracks.
I've been seeing that also, its usually results in a very low audio level.

If that's the case then I think maybe your hardware doesn't support the sound format. Do you have an old system? Do you know what audio codec the problem movies are using? I'm not sure myself about the minimum hardware requirements for a given audio codec but your system would have to be pretty old to have a problem playing any audio codec, I would think. Maybe its just the sound card that's the problem.

DId you try a different media player? it could be just a software issue too.

If this is a problem with many different files, from many different releasers, I doubt that it would be a bad encode every time. I've downloaded videos that did not play correctly (usually a video problem), but the source of the problem was not having the right codec installed.

I suggest running the bad files in a codec identifier application. What player are you using anyway?

It could be the audio codec used was AC3. Some posters will indicate that on the subject line.
Do a search for AC3 filter. If you don't need it now, eventually you will.

step one: uninstall any codec packs or other stuff you may have
step two: download and install http://www.cccp-project.net/

Problem Solved.

I also think VideoLAN player is very good because all the codecs are built-in, I use it for files that don't load subtitles properly.
