Hellanzb isn't just for the commandline anymore:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hellagui
http://www.lottanzb.org/
http://www.gtk-apps.org/content/show.ph ... tent=69738

But the real beauty of Hellanzb is that you just launch it as a daemon and forget about it. Download stuff to the trigger-directory and everything happens in the background. Easier, friendlier, and less resource intensive than Pan or Klibido that support NZB downloads as sort of an afterthought. Not hating on the original poster, just making a couple of points.
Peace.

Pan looks good - I am able to access my newsgroup on Verizon FIOS.

I am used to using GRABIT on Windows. It should be interesting to compare them.

Thanks for all of your help. :D

I'll be adding a hellanzb addon guide within the next day or two.

Excellent! Those Slyck guides were very helpful to me and others I knew when we were first getting our feet wet in p2P years ago.

I seem to recall that there were dozens of guides posted on this site back then. Hopefully, their absence is only temporary.

Anyone else using SABNzb? Very easy setup with a browser interface. It also has Newzbin functionality where it checks your bookmarks every 15 minutes. You can write custom scripts to automatically run at the end of the download/extraction process, etc. etc. Very complete and functional

I use Forte Agent running under WINE in UBUNTU. I tried a few of the native *NIX newsgroup software, the best was PAN for binaries. However none of them was as good as good old fashioned Agent. I have not had any problems making Agent work with WINE. I even have an encrypted connection (via STUNNEL4) to GIGAGNEWS.

I love UBUNTU, and I haven't resorted to using Windows at home for over a year now. But the problem is that some of the LINUX applications just don't have the same level of functionality as some of the applications that run on Windows. Fortunately WINE works over 90% of the time (for the apps I have tried to use with it) and that makes UBUNTU a viable option for me.

URD is a versatile webbased usenet download application. It can download directly from NZB files, index groups by itself, use RSS feeds, but also create NZB files and RSS feeds. It supports automatically downloading based on keywords. It's completely multi-user, multilanguage, multi-server. Running par2 and dearchiving is done automatically. It has the capability to preview .nfo files, parse them for additional info. Also images and other files can be previewed. You can find it at http://www.urdland.com.

Absolutely, fell in love with SABnzbd recently and it's all written in the beautiful Python.
We've written two articles on it recently:

A guide on how to install and set it up on Ubuntu (it's really easy, the package manager basically does it all)

and one on how to make it easier to use with Firefox and Mac OSX.

Hope they're of help to some Ubuntu users out there.
