I would like to test newshosting.com, to see if i like it, i am interested in getting it, but if anyone can help me gain access to one to try it, i would appreciate it, just for a day would be fine. If there is a cheaper one that is just as good, that would be great. I know one thing that i will need more than 3gb a day. Xbox games are huge. If anyone could help me i would appreciate it thanks.

Newshosting is currently the one I use, they are simply fantastic, been with them for a month and a half.

Downloading now at 240kb/s all the time, their $14.95 unlimited package rules, nuff said... you don't need to try it, for that money you get more than you pay for.

Kinda off topic, but wth.
If you pay for access to usenet how does it affect your bandwidth between you and your isp?

If your isp caps you with a 40kB download limit, will your usenet access through the pay service be capped as well?

No.

My ISP caps my usenet service through them to 30KBs. However, I am able to download ~400KBs with my paid service.

What's the best usenet provider?

Without a doubt in my mind, usenetserver (http://www.usenetserver.com/) is the best newsgroup server on Slyck's list. I have been using this server for over a year, and I can't believe some of the comments about them that I have read. Makes me think that some of our forum members have this group confused with someone else, or they just don't know what they are talking about. I get 3mbps from my isp, and my downloads from usenetserver always max out my connection speed. On the user ratings for this group I noticed someone posted a rating saying "very poor speeds" from Jan. 17,2005----WHOAH!!---I was using this service in Jan of 2005, and its NEVER been slow. So, I ask slow compared to what?? Someone has an ax to gring by lowering the ratings on Slycks newsgroup ratings. This server should rate in the top 5 newsgroups hands down in my book. One wrong comment has them way down the list. The retention rate is good-I am sure there are better retention rates among newsgroup servers for $80 a month. I never fail to get what I need at $14 a month (about 150-200 gigs).

Contrary to some other things I read, I have never had any problem connecting to the server (except for rare downtimes due to repairs or upgrades of the equipment) and the server keeps one well informed of network status on the main site. If I have a question a call anytime of the day or night-or an instant chat, answers my questions.

My vote goes to usenetserver.com . To get what I get from them on another newsgroup would cost me triple the price.

wtf? I use Giganews and the completion rate is amazing. The retention is 50 days and i max out my 5Mbit connection.

Easynews has like 2 weeks retention? No unlimited accounts? Limited newsgroups to use? I would rate Giganews over them, then Newshosting...

Im in the UK and i only have a Debit Card. Are there any newsgroup servers that accept debit cards? Easynews and giganews only accept credit cards :(

http://www.usenet.com and http://www.usenetmonster.com both take Paypal accounts which is handy for those without a credit card like myself, usenet.com are a bit pricey but offer a good service and speed. Usenetmonster are better priced at $19 [about £11] for the unlimited service with 4 connections and a 14 day retention, although i have manged to download stuff that was 35 days old on this service so it varies i think from newsgroup to newsgroup -

As for speed well i'm on a 1mb AOL connection allowing for around 128KB/s but on newsgroups i easily hit 200KB/s regularly, no idea why it happens, it used to do it occasionally with Bittorrent but it does it all the time with usenet, mind you i'm not complaining

i'm using newshosting since mar 2005. Pretty good until recently keep getting authenication errors, causing my downloads to get messed up. no sure it's newshosting or my isp causing the problem

I can say I too have had Newshosting and have never had a problem. I have a 5mbps line and it maxes it out. As for retention, I havent had a problem with that either due to my account at Newzbin.com. It enables me to place a notifier on a particular item I want and will let me know when its in. Just my 2 cents.

I subscribe to newzbin as well, and I didn't know you could do that. I'll have to check it out.

I also use newshosting (unlimited) and have no complaints.

Theres no dowt in my eyes that Giganews is best.
50days retention
10 threads
full speed dls 24/7
It might be a little more expensive than some others
but 'You get what you pay for'!
I use Junkie client and with their web interface + with giganews account i can get and create nzbs to any files posted on the newsgroups quickly and easily!
Check out http://www.newsreactor.net/
where i have posted many nzbs over the last few months and you will see by the ammount ive posted
how easy it is to create your own with Junkie

Junkie also has a Monitor feature that will let you know when the files you are looking for are posted on groups!
So with Giganews+Junkie anyone can get latest posts or create your own nzbs..wot more do u want?

I decided to move from BT to NGs as three sites I have been a member of have got busted, and I am getting paranoid.

I was interested in http://www.powerusenet.com/ because they are a Giganews reseller and my ISP (Pipex) includes 10GB of access with Giganews which is superb. It is too expensive for me to go unlimited though, so I would like to know if Powerusenet are as good, if so, $14.95pm for unlimited access seems very good value.
Thanks

ps. Have just signed up with Powerusenet using a UK Mastercard, got login details immediatley and am now retrieving grouplist at 120KB/s on a 1meg line using only one connection. Good so far - 87600 odd groups will post a rating in Slycks list after a week or so. :P

hi thebeefster welcome to slyck. Glad you could join us :P

Powerusenet is a very good provider, mostly due to the fact that they are a giganews reseller. So you get the same kind of quality service from giganews.

However if you go with newshosting you would get the same amount of connections but for $14.95/month which is around £8, so you will be saving around £60 a year.

Try out newshosting (sign through my sig to help out filesplit!)
