Is Kazaa part of the "DirectConnect" network?

Postby hellfire18 » Wed Jan 17, 2007 1:40 pm

As per the post title, and which vairent of Kazaa is the best (i.e Lite)?

Also do any of the DC clients support encryption to escape the dreaded traffic shaping?

Thanks, Chris.

Just in case you have been in a cave you should not be using any version of kazaa.
You are almost guaranteed to get a nasty gram from the RIAA, Spyware and viruses if you install any version of that client.

2) Kazaa has nothing to do with direct-connect it's a completely different type of file sharing network.

3)all p2p software can be affected by packet shapers even with encryption on. depending on how smart the operator of the packet-shape is and who's packetshaper there using.

4) I know of no direct-connect client that supports header obstructions.

What should you be using?
emule
limewire
soulseek
utorrent
Azureus
If you must use direct-connect.
I recommend DC++.

This is what happens to kazaa users.

I really am a "newbie" so to speak, I have used various P2P apps in the past but then got stuck on Shareaza only to realise it's pap. I am considering downloading Apex DC++ as I've heard very good reviews of it, I have used Emule in the past but found the download speeds unbelievably slow, is this supposed to be better than DC and would you recommend downloading Emule lite??

Ta, Chris.

I suggest you stick with p2p applications from the slyck list until you gathered SOME experience how those programs work.

Besides from "Emule lite" being a scam in the best case scenario, what makes you think it'll perform any other then the original ? :?

P2P is not piracy, it's marketing. In fact, if your music or movie is NOT being downloaded, you should be WORRIED !
If you can't even give it away for free, how do you expect to sell it, stupid ?

if it's just music you want try Ares. it's almost too easy.
for other content use torrents.. again very easy

download utorrent
download Torrent Harvester
(these use very little of your computers resources)

2 clicks & you'll probably find everything you ever wanted.

EDIT: oh yes, stay the hell away from Kazaa

I use Azureus which uses lots of resources however I have a very powerful PC so it doesn't really bother me.

Regarding P2P apps, I will either use DC or Emule, which is better or they "different" or am I asking the impossible question :)

I direct you to the search feature of Slyck.
That question: Which one is better always starts
a small war.
I look at it this way.
The better network is the one with the file your looking for.

That list that I have in my other post are the networks I use when looking for files.
Usenet is the other network.
Use what works for you. But stay the heck off kazaa.

Ummm...

How does someone know the word "file-shaping" and not know that Kazaa is Satan's stool? My spidey-sense is tingling, because that seems almost impossible. :p
Money makes the world turn. Like a game? Buy it if you can. Like a music album? Buy it, too.
Then contact the label, and tell them the "demo" you downloaded from P2P is what made you WANT to buy it.

Yes, just to emphasise, DON'T USE KAZAA. What was wrong with shareaza? It worked great for me, though i haven't used it in a while. As somebody mentioned above, Ares is also quite simple to use.
