Ares vs Gnutella in Speed

Postby P2P_G » Fri Aug 18, 2006 1:00 pm

Well some thinks that Ares is faster and some thinks that gnutella is faster, i think that gnutella with LimeWire Pro or BearShare Pro is faster, what do you think? wote and add a comment ;) Well there are some Gnutella clients thats slow as h*ll like iMesh lol. Ares has more quotes than gnutella and quotes makes your downloads slow(or doesn't download your file at all). Sometimes when i click to download a file from Ares and it doesn't have much searches, i get the result "needs more searches" or something, this does not happen often in gnutella. And this is not spam or such, i just wanna se what people thinks :) Let the fastest network win! :D

No dude, mostly of the searches in the swarm are fakes, the one that has like "mesh", "anon" or "dht" in the begining are fakes and you can't download from them. And when you get a file that has under 5 searches, it will be very hard to download it, but not in LimeWire or BearShare. Gnutella is faster. But Ares isn't slow too ;) and actually i have found more fakes(mp3s) on Ares than LimeWire...

Gnutella is predominently accessed by 'Open-Sourse' applications. meaning It'll live, but I don't know about progress. i.e rarer, hard-to-find content.

I raely use it nowadays.

Oh i dont mean the developmetn side, that is assured to carry on for some time at least due to the open source nature of the community.

But the inceasing mainstream popularity of it and limewire in particular, i have noticed amoungst non tech-savvy people i know and they have all migrated from kazaa, so they are going to bring attention with them.

I stopped using it a year ago and i know it is the next big p2p in the sights of the Cartels

I've found Ares to be faster. I've had a file, only 10 sources yet 700kB/s down (700MB movie). Best I've done on Gnutella was about 200kB/s?

Anyway, it is irrelevant. The speed depends on the uploader/s not the network in general.

Gnutella seems slightly faster than Ares with non-paid versions. I ran Frostwire and Ares side by side.

havent used ares for a while but when i did it went insanely fast, basically maxxed my then 3mbit conection @ 350kb/s.
gnutella has never come close.

EDIT- i seem to remember there was no option in ares to limit upload speed i had to do it manually with netlimiter maybe that is why. no leechers setting upload to 1kb/s.

Umm, yep there is, it's called the "limit upload option" they called it that to hide it....

You don't have to choose a Username in Ares..if you don't, you will be 'anon'...as for the 'dht' names...when the download starts..the'dht@Ares' will change to a Username.

I have never seen a 'mesh' user.

As for speed..I use both Ares & LimeWire..
It all depends on the file you get....but,
I have seen over 200k in Ares & never have in LW...I've seen aroung 120k.

Ares just doesn't have much content, or at least the content I want and for me its always been a buggy POS. Frostwire has tons of files and loads of speed. Still, I run emule, which is slow, because it has more content than both networks put together. I only download old movies so thats where my opinion is coming from.
