In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

this video reminds me of this one... from about a yr ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVbW532CMYA

also reading the comments on captains vid, it was mentioned that the two forklifts has puffs of smoke coming out of them... yut they are electrict so it (the video) may be dr.'d in someway, and alittle background according to msn video news here http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en- ... a4b4abf13f that was 150 thousand dollars worth of vodak and cognac

i'm not gonna watch the video, can't wait that long lol - but having driven hi-los for years, i'll comment on the puffs of smoke. an electric hi-lo can smoke if it has a short. on the other hand, i have never driven a propane hi-lo that smoked. and i have never seen anything but a propane or electric hi-lo used in a warehouse. the only hi-lo that would smoke in normal operation would be gasoline, or more likely diesel, and i've never seen them used indoors, for obvious reasons.

i guess what i'm saying is, what exactly would have been doctored, and why? was it really footage of an outdoor hi-lo? that makes no sense. and who would add puffs of smoke to the footage? what would the point be?

and the result is what makes the video interesting. why doctor the hi-los themselves if stuff getting knocked over is the focus?

Ok...watched the video and yeah...not only is it puffs of smoke, it is big black puffs of smoky exhaust. I've been around forklifts for quite a few years now and little electric ones like those would never generate that amount of exhaust or smoke, even spinning the tires. If they were propane, I haven't ever seen propane exhaust black like that.

Not only that...the smoke does look out of place...something about it doesn't even look right.

looks ok to me :?

how do you know the forklifts are electric, anyway?

it's a russian warehouse full of vodka, from what i gather, and you can't automatically assume that such a place will necessarily have the same regard for emission control as somewhere in the u.s.

You can't even assume that standards are impeccably high everywhere in the u.s. for that matter.

Well, the one didn't seem to have any smoke...

But I suppose you are right, no saying they are electric...thems Russians could be getting away with some shady behaviour.

 at the thought of a small electric hi-lo spinning its tires ;)

ps: there's more to my scepticism about certain types of hi-los operating indoors than just sensible policies about emissions. as far as i know, ones that use gasoline/diesel are uncommon, quite expensive, and used for one purpose only - moving very heavy loads - not the loads you'd find in a warehouse full of vodka. they are generally used at places like shipyards and construction sites. and since we're stereotyping the russians, don't they also tend to do stuff on the cheap? ;)

bottom line - i am not saying the video couldn't have been doctored. but i'd feel a lot better about it if someone would come up with an explanation that makes sense for WHY :?

Yeah, I chuckled at the thought of them spinning the tires. Even the telehandler at work only hits like 40kph, I think.

WHY they would do it? Not sure, maybe it's just added effects...but I definitely was wondering on the why part myself.

It appears to be a real accident....

http://www.woai.com/news/local/story/Must-See-Forklift-accident-brings-down-the/uX2aVZA3vEuNitvrgXxiVw.cspx

A Russian worker really brought down the house when he lost control of a forklift inside a warehouse full of alcohol.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the driver hit a huge stack of shelves full of vodka and cognac. The shelves collapsed and hit another row of shelves, causing other shelves to collapse in a chain reaction.

The Daily Telegraph reports that driver escaped with minor injuries, but caused thousands of dollars' worth of damage.

(I did not search the Daily Telegraph for the article)

Well, the way it stands...that had to be an ICE engine. Battery can't do it. Propane burns too clean, unless it was in poor maintenance...so I would suggest - costs aside, it was probably gas.

I read at least 10 pages of Google results for all of you, for this accident that happened on November 3rd, and there is no mention of what kind of fork lift it is, I did however, find a link for Russian fork lifts, lol.

I believe diesel forklifts are also used for moving things such as explosive gas tanks where other types of forklift engines may increase the risk of ignition (since diesel engines do not create sparks or use a spark ignition system). Vodka is pretty flammable, so I would imagine diesel forklifts are good for shifting that stuff too, just in case of a spillage.

...which would mean the video was not doctored, which would make more sense than if it were.

but, since i've already been accused of spreading FUD once yesterday, thanks for removing the "as far as i know" part of my quote and making it look like i did it twice ;)

Still not sure of their workplace health protocols...but I know here in Saskatchewan that there is no way a diesel forklift would be allowed to operate in a facility that didn't have enough volume or enough ventilation to handle it. They are kinda sticky on such things. I haven't the pleasure of reading the forklift training manual yet, but it's all in there.

The warehouse may be open-sided, or have large open doors or even some sort of blower/extraction system. Then again, if this is Russia, and Chernobyl is anything to go by, it may have none of those things!
