Hi,

I can't find Edonkey to download. Where can i download it from? I went to edonkey2000.net or .com and it has been shut down and my IP has been logged. When i searched in google and tried to download Edonkey there was a missing file so it couldn't start.

eDonkey is no more. I'd suggest you try eMule instead.

Though, even with old versions, I would safely caution any user to use at their own risk because there is no telling how many security holes have been uncovered since the official clients demise. Yes, possible to connect to Overnet. Yes, possible to connect to ED2K network, but I personally would use a client that's still supported (and open source, but that's just personal preference)

DONT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING EMULE OR EDONKEY!

i just went to install an emule i'd downloaded.

thankfully i scanned it with spybot first. it has the zango trojan in it.

anything mule or donkey wont touch this computer. they are trojanware now

trust me. i had zango and a few more trojans. zango is nasty. i ended up doing a full system restore from my original restore disks to get rid of them all

be forewarned.

emule and edonkey are trojanware, dont install them for your own sake!

HI and welcome to p2p...
Let me start off by saying there welcome and sorry you got turned in the wrong direction.

Let me start off with a little information.
1) edonkey is dead it died long ago... So never install anything called edonkey.
2) The Ip loging thing is crap don't worry about it.
3) There are currently only 4 real p2p applications..
emule (it's free), limewire ( there is a free and a pay version), bittorrent ( i recomend utorrent).

Now as you have quickly found out there are a lot of fake pages and bad information so if your new
to all this take it slow and you won't end up downloading fake crap again.

Thats it... if you need more help read and ask.. then read again before running off and installing something bad.

I like to help... and I do my best to always give you the real deal.

zango is a very nasty trojan.

i got it from that site, the one zbeast mentioned. my word. none of my other scanners found anything wrong with it, but who trusts zone alarm and nod lately? i depend on spybot for important things

the malware scan was fine, the heuristic scan found zango :)

i wont touch emule again. i used spybot s&d to scan, i dont trust other scanners nearly as much

and klitetools, you should read the rules before posting, live links to software arent supposed to be posted except those that are okay'd by mods. very bad

I've been using eMule for 4 years without any problems...very funny you say this...

What OP experienced with eMule is called false positive. It happens :) Should there be anything funny going on, it'd be posted all over eMule-Project forums. You say it's heuristic detection, then you should alert Spybot S&D devs that their application is tagging clean software.

Besides, it could be argued that Spybot Search and Destroy is past its prime. Other, more powerful software have taken its place.

Edit: according to virustotal, latest eMule installer available is clean. See results here http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/0e9d ... 0baaabaeee

OP stands for Original Poster, and I used it in error in this case :D (that's what you get for simply c/p'ing something to multiple threads).

I wonder why everyone says that, especially with this long list of prblems it gives;
http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php

Also, I get that Error: The system cannot find the path specified..
µT says the problem is "This problem may be caused by a limitation in Windows with path lengths. Windows unfortunately limits the maximum length to 255 characters (which includes the filename). Try saving the torrent to a location closer to the drive's root, such as C:\torrent."

Which is why I save all my files to E:\DL\
Nothing further.....
It also refuses to download when Google Desktop is downloding but BitComet never had any problem...

as far as utorrent i created a folder in c called torrents. i save or it saves my torrent lists, original download file there. then i created 2 folders inside. incoming for what im downloading to be saved to and outgoing for any original seeds or reseeds

ive never had a problem with filename lengths, but i agree, it should be on your main drive. and i wouldnt download the files to the same folder the 'shortcuts' to them are in.

as for what was said earlier i will differ. i do understand heuristics. but i know emule has caused problems for many, and that i have read that even from the source page it has serious problems, so im sticking to good old utorrent :)

ah no it shouldn't. The increased wear and tear on your HD will shorten its life, so you should always be using a second (or third) HD for it, preferably one with everything else backed up.
kellypi wrote:know emule has caused problems for many, and that i have read that even from the source page it has serious problems

If you are referring to the installer containing a virus, I would very much like to see a link to such a comment on the emule-project.net pages. If by 'serious problems' you are referring to the routine day-to-day setup issues, bear in mind that people don't go to support forums to say 'hello, everything is fine', for every person who has asked for help, many are resolved because of config errors on THEIR part, and for every one with an issue there are thousands who don't.

not everyone can afford extra drives. mine is partitioned.

and could people stop attacking me please? i admitted that it could be wrong. as far as im concerned that part of the discussion is over

not attack you here kellypi, but you should think about it this way. If you can't afford an extra drive, think about the cost of replacing your current one if/when it fails. And since the boot drive also has your OS and all your pics/music/data, the cost of losing this can be a lot more than monetary.
Even a crappy old <32gig HD can be used (depending on your download volumes), set your incoming and temp dirs on there, then archive your completed downloads off that onto your main drive. You can still seed/share the archives off your main drive, although this will still cause wear it is less just reading than read/write actions.

Of course, it depends how much P2P/torrent downloading you actually do. More will wear the HD quicker, but even average use is hard on the drives.

Even if you can't afford it now, keep it in mind as an option for when you can.
