Welcome to Slyck..
Please make sure you keep visiting us

1) do i use the edonkey site and give my credit card details etc - will it work then ?

Dead means dead.. The official site/client is dead.

Look over to your left on this page...
See the menu where it says Slyck Guides
The eDonkey2000 link is what you want.
Now for you... you'll want the Clients Page.
Pick another client

eMule is generally recommended by many users here. If you ever want to change from eMule to something else later on, you have hundreds of mods to choose from. :)

Oh yeah, if you are wondering what happened to the other client, this should answer your question:

eDonkey lite does not support large files, a number of files are nw larger than the 4GB limit, and as it is not being updated like the other clients on the network there will come a day when it is banned for incompatability.

Though while it is still useable ren if you find it easier to use than eMule go for it.

if ever there comes a time when you need to dl more than a 4.0 gb file just download emule or a supplement and use it then.Other than that, if Edonkey ever gets banned from the network, Overnet still exist and is functional.

Edonkey - where is it?

Thats so useful, thanks, infact i downloaded e-mule but am not used to configuring like i used to with edonkey

Prefer edonkey lite as i know it, i know how to configure it, and also because it takes torrent links

Does emule take bt plugins and torrent links eg from miminova ???do you know ? 8)

nope emule just works on the edonkey network only no plug-in's.

If you want a multiple network p2p applications there's always shareaza.

it does torrents, it does edonkey, it does gnutella 1 and gnutella 2 and it does them all badly.

If you need torrents use utorrent or Azureus

Stay away from muti-network p2p applications they seem to not work very well.

These programs are not hard to use.
emule is just click, click and click and your done.
If you find this hard to do perhaps you should take a second to read the docs that come with the program befor using it.

Just use utorrent or any other BT client you like.

Edit: Too late.
