Yes, sudden bad news.
Will eMule take my edonkey's partial temporary files?

No it's not sudden it has been in the pipe line since the settlement last year.

Yes you can import your temp files into eMule, there is an option for it under tools.

But prepare for some losses.
Only completed and verified chunks can be imported.

From scanning some other emule/edonkey forums it appears by modifying your hosts file to the below you can stop the client connecting to the edonkey site and it then won't try to uninstall.

127.0.0.1 home.edonkey2000.com
127.0.0.1 sda.edonkey2000.com
127.0.0.1 home.edonkey.com

You won't be able to visit the edonkey website again but then why would you want to?

I know I've mentioned it before but...the other option is to try emule. Try it...you might like it!
Should really think of something to put here.

What i told you before?
This is part of the national alienation agenda to surpase the civil rights... nor that we have any more than USA citizens here in the south pole but at least we don't claim that we're FREE.

Fine with me, I got other sources, but the fact doesn't mean I can't take on account that the client said nothing to the users, and well... at least me, I paid the 19 dollars... so I "supposedly" had some rights..., in example, get a warning...

Download 1.4.3b, disconnect from internet, install eDonkey and voilà fully connected eDonkey:

I'm confirming this. Just download the 1.4.3b version, make sure you're offline when you install, and there is no subsequent connection to whatever central site is sending the uninstall stuff. Overnet is STILL active, though admitteddly, there are a couple of hundred thousand less users than usual as I'm sure everyone is suffering the same problem as we are.

As more and more people roll-back to a version that was released BEFORE the guys at edonkey2000 bowed to the RIAA et al. I'm pretty sure the overnet numbers will climb again. Anyway, I've done it, and it works just fine.

"There is a known security vulnerability in this version of edonkey. Please upgrade ..."

This "vulnerability" causes people to connect to the ed2k network. According to the RIAA, this is a security vulnerabilty and upgrading to the newer version solves this connection problem. ;)

I feel bad for all the eDonkey programmers, testers and moderators who devoted so much time to this app only to see it die. I hope they create an eDonkey offshoot. eMule needs some competition. :)

Yeah, all I can confirm at this point is that the entire eDonkey2000 site is now down.

edit: If I go to http://www.edonkey.com I don't see the message but if I go to edonkey.com it's there.

The funny thing is its amazing the lack of coverage that this is getting.
Any client with 3 million or so users should make some kind of noise when it shutdown.
Its no "Black Sunday" but if I was joe yo yo and I just fired up my p2p app and it then turned around and tried to delete itself. I would be screaming bloody murder.

You have to love the timing tho back at school for two weeks and then blam! wtf.

For the uninitiated it would almost look like a network attack from your school.

I do too but i get this message:

The eDonkey2000 Network is no longer available.

If you steal music or movies, you are breaking the law.

Courts around the world -- including the United States Supreme Court --
have ruled that businesses and individuals can be prosecuted for illegal
downloading.

You are not anonymous when you illegally download copyrighted material.

eDonkey 1.4.3b Version With Fix (no more vulnerability message and other RIAA crap)

Hahaha this is rich! :D
They try to take down eDonkey completely by stealthy operations, but it takes one dedicated user less than 10 hours to undo the damage.

The RIIA have probably planned this thing for months, and hoped it would be the end of the old donkey. As it turns out, the donkey is now pounding RIIA ass with its enourmous donkey c***.:P

How can they think they even stand a chance to win??? I mean seriously!

There could come the point when both the server and other client software is updated to exclude any client identifying itself as eD. If MM has finally gone down the legit route as the settlement news claimed then there may be no choice in the matter or MM may ask them to do so.

eD clients make up one of the minority clients on the network anyway. It will take more than the taking down of a client to knock the network.

I know very well the rules, the patch only disable eDonkey to check the version number and to display that crappy vulnerability message, it doesn't make it ''pro'' :

Download eDonkey 1.4.3b:
http://download.overnet.org/edonkey1.4.3b.exe

Disconnect from internet, install eDonkey and apply the patch:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/rowofc

Code: Select all
@echo off
:start
If Not %winbootdir%'==' Set Dir=%windir%\HOSTS
If %OS%'==Windows_NT' Set Dir=%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
If Not %OS%'==Windows_NT' Set Dir=%windir%\HOSTS
If Not %OS%'==Windows_NT' Set op=yes
If %OS%'==Windows_NT' Set op=no

If %op%'==yes' goto win98
If %op%'==no' goto winnt
goto end

:winnt
attrib -R %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
echo. >>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
echo # eDonkey home - http://alltheweb.com/ >>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
echo 66.94.229.254 home.edonkey.com >>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
echo # # eDonkey home - http://alltheweb.com/ >>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

goto end

:win98
attrib -R %windir%\HOSTS
echo. >>%windir%\HOSTS
echo # eDonkey home - http://alltheweb.com/ >>%windir%\HOSTS
echo 66.94.229.254 home.edonkey.com >>%windir%\HOSTS
echo # eDonkey home - http://alltheweb.com/ >>%windir%\HOSTS

goto end

Right, but you link to the eDonkey Client download...doesnt that qualify as linking to copyrighted content?

No matter, its not my place to judge or give lectures on the rules. I was just asking a question.

I think it is cool that, already, there is a ED2K client available that completely ignores the will of the RIIA.
