Not getting Reachable status, only "Testing Firewall&qu

Postby andysmith45 » Fri Jun 23, 2006 5:24 am

I upgraded to Windows XP with SP2 recently and since then I have only been getting a "Testing Firewall" status on edonkey. I am neither getting a reachable or unreahable status. Previously, I had no problems in getting a reachable status on Win98. I have got an ADSL connection and am connecting to the net through pppoe. I had also recently upgraded my computer so my LAN card is changed but adsl modem is the same. I am currently using edonkey2000 1.4.5.

Windows firewall is always off. I also tried connecting with zone alarm, norton antivirus, peerguardian all turned off but to no avail. I also changed the ports; even tried changing the TCP port to 80 but got the same result. As a consequence, I am able to download only those files with a large no. of sources.

Following is the connection test that I tried and their results.

connection established
wrote hello request
readed edonkey header
readed edonkey frame
parsed edonkey frame
closed connection to client
success: your id should be 201*******

It is very frustrating not to be able to solve this problem. Plz help. Thx.

Try using TCP 3662 and UDP 3665. Do NOT use port 80. You should also try downloading a new contact.dat file:
http://www.gedc.de/sig/contact.dat

If that still doesn't work, you can try switching back to v1.4.3b:

Thanks. The new contact.dat did the trick and I am now getting Reachable status.

Btw, under

1) Options -> Advanced; Should I check or uncheck the "UPnP support" and "Memory Buffer Files"?

2) Options -> Server; should I check or uncheck the "Auto Remove Dead Servers" and Ignore Incoming Server Lists in order to keep away the fake servers?

1) Check, and Check

2) Check, either.

3) use an ipfilter in Options > security, or use a prog such as peergaurdian to keep away from fake servers, and clients.
