It seems that we can expect a new edonkey version soon.
You can read more about it on the eDonkey forum and say what you want to see in it.

Great news but how is this possible if they threw in the towel?

It reminds me that Sharman was ordered by the court to encourage users to "upgrade" to a copyright-filtering version of Kazaa.

Facing the likelihood of a crushing RIAA lawsuit for enabling copyright infringement, eDonkey 'settled' with them. But the question still remains: what exactly did Jed agree to do? And will this next eDonkey version be part of that settlement?

Whether the next version of eDonkey will contain a filter or not doesn't really matter, because people on the eD2k network don't use the official client anyway.

Well, there are some diehard fans of the client as well. It is true though that there are more eMule's then ED2K client users.
