Network Issues Vista

I had my old pc networked so that I could watch files on my xbox in the living room over the network (wirelessly) from my pc. This computer ran xp. That's now broken so I got a laptop.

However my new laptop runs vista and although i've got the same files shared and the workgroup shows up on my xbox when I tried to go into the workgroup folder it says theres nothing there. (it is definately the right work group showing up on the xbox) I tried turning off the firewall in vista to see if it's a permission problem but this didn't sort it out.

Sorry if this question belongs in an xbox forum - i don't have another computer to see if i can access the files off a different computer across the network but as far as I can work out I wouldn't be able to.

Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

From what I understand, if you want to connect to a Vista machine, I think you need a user designated to allow it.

XP had the same type of thing, but could easilly circumvent it by allowing anonymous logins...I haven't got to play with Vista enough to see if there is something in the Local Security Policy (or equivalent) to allow guest or anonymous logins across a network. They may have forseen it as a security hole.

With workgroups you need the same accounts on all machines and allow sharing.
Create the same account on your laptop that was on the XP machine( username/password).
