You finally gonna ditch the dial-up then Fred!?

Are you sure you're ready for all that extra speed and power!? ;)

I don't know what services you have over there, or how cost effective they are, but have you considered 3G 'mobile broadband'?

I've just recently invested in one of these:

It gives me broadband practically anywhere from about £10 per month. Not incredibly fast (typically 1-3Mb/s), and most of the cheaper services are limited to just a few GB per month, but it's still gotta be better than dial-up! :)

I've never had/used satellite before, but this should help you out.
