Hi
It's been a long long while since I asked the members here to help me out :tinfoilhat:
I decided recently to dump Internet Explorer in favor of Firefox. Just a hunch. Anyways, I Love to trawl through the Youtube music archives. Having just installed Firefox 2.0.0.13, I went to check out some Youtube videos, and I saw a bunch of question marks like ????...that replaced the usual graphic links. Where did I slip up? Thanks again for your helpful replies :)

Did you forget to install flash after you installed firefox.?
youtube needs it to show you links and videos.

Thanks zbeast. Yes, I installed the latest Flash Player Plug-Ins, and the question marks are still displaying. I wonder if it has something to do with the Character Encoding in the 'View' options. Maybe not, but I'll try it out anyway :|

You've gotta allow Javascripts.

Go to edit -> preferences

this is how mine looks, and I can watch You Tube just fine.

Sorry about the quality.

Try uninstalling it and starting again. If that doesn't work, i conclude that firefox doesn't like you.

Looks like character encoding is set to japanese/chinese or somethin other than english... Go to View and then down to character encoding and try somethin like Unicode UTF-8 or whatever. Unknown characters are shown as question marks as far as I know so give this a try and see what happens

Hello lion7718
I mean the HTTP links I guess, like Share, Favorites, Flag etc...these words are now displayed with question marks...??????, as well as all the info accompanying the videos.

@peewee007, I tried modifying all the Character Coding settings, but to no avail...thanks for the suggestion though.

@Fartingbob...Firefox ain't the only one that doesn't like me

Do you happen to have the RIP Plugin installed..??
If so..go through the Options & remove anything marked YouTube.
If not..since we know it's only Links..other might be able to help more.

Well lion7718, you've stumped me on this one. I haven't a clue as to the nature of Plug-Ins. I don't even know where to start looking for RIP on my HD, if it's even there. When I first installed Firefox, everything was hunky dory until I hit Youtube. It's the only site that's thrown me for a loop on this one :x
I wish I could backtrack to last week...even with IE

Open Firefox - go to TOOLS - Add-Ons. There ya go - extensions/plugins. You can enable/disable them there. Maybe one of those is blocking it.

Well HalOfBorg...I appreciate very much your pointer here. I checked out the ADD-Ons and I found only two: 'DOM Inspector' which was Enabled...(this is the Black Arts for me!!), and 'Talkback...which was disabled. Curiously, I noticed in my Browser Address Bar when I typed in http://www.youtube.com, the following: http:hk.youtube.com...like I was redirected to whatever hk means?????. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. I've been out with a bad flu the last few days :pissedoff:

HK is Hong Kong... your browser aint interpreting the characters since they're chinese and not english as I said some time ago
Not sure why your browser redirects to that site instead of just http://www.youtube.com unless you're using a chinese ISP that automatically does that for some stupid reason. The browser can't figure out what the characters are so it replaces them with question marks

Thanks so much everybody!! I found a solution!!. I hit the Firefox Forum, and discovered that hitting the Global link on the YouTube 'Site Link' corrected the problem. Many thanks to all of you who replied :toast:

Hi,
i would suggest you three things to do.

1) first uninstall firefox and install it again then try.
2) when ever you open youtube on web-browser,please install flash player or Microsoft's Silver Light.
3) Otherwise change or javascripting setting.

With this i'm sure you'll get a solution.

I might be wrong, but im pretty sure its the same low IQ spammer that keeps trying to join and bring up old threads to give simple advice or talk about something only loosely connected to the topic, in the same writing style every time.
I think the general idea of the spam is to post all over the place as if your a genuine member of society and not an annoying piece of shit. If the posts arent deleted then after a while go back and quietly edit in links to spamtacular websites in the hope that the mods wont notice.
People stumbling into the thread later find a 6 month old post from someone with a double figure post count and presume the link is fine and dandy.

agreed - although i suspect it's much more than one spammer who does this.
