local webserver on VMware

Postby Flaps » Sat Jul 19, 2008 3:07 pm

hey hey all, here's my dilemma...

I recently installed VMware on my vista machine (don't ask why i got vista... loooong story :P), where I have installed Ubuntu 7.1.
I have created a local webserver (drupal) and it seems to be running great apart from one thing...
I can access the site on the Ubuntu virtual machine and on my Vista machine (by typing in the IP address, somin like 192.168.192.128) BUT i can't seem to access it through my brothers machine, or my old mans machine...

I'm thinking mabye I'm only able to access it because the virtual server is running on the vista machine, and only they have access to that specific IP address... or mabye not, i really don't know lol.

The VM is running on NAT configuration if that is any help.

Thanks all

When you create the VM there are 3 options for network

"NAT" shares your computers address.
"Bridged" gives your virtual machine a separate address.
"Host Only" only gives network access to your computer.

**

You said its setup as NAT, so you would connect via the same IP the host uses. If you are on the host you would connect via "localhost" or 127.0.0.1.

Also dbl check firewall on the host and client

**

If you aren't sure your VM is setup correctly, this site makes it ez.
