Software to find free wifi

Postby flyingrhino » Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:36 am

Hi,
Has anyone found a software that can find unencrypted wifi, then connect to them and test for accessibility (like open a webpage) .
I know netstumbler and the like can find these wifi, but connecting manually until free internet is found is a pain.
Some places even serve their own webpage asking for a password/login, so the software needs to try some general site like google and if it opens then the PC remains connected,

Any ideas?

No it'll just either
A) mean more innocent people get caught up in lawsuits or
B) far fewer public wi'fi's in operation.

The idea is to grab wifi off libraries, free city wifi, etc. So if the activity is spread out, no one can be directly held responsible. Good for all.

In a sensible world yes it would be better. but in RIAA world it just means sending out more C&D letters and extorting more money from more people.

why not just get something like this http://www.lordpercy.com/netgear_wg111_wireless_usb.htm . The software that comes with it has its own automatic signal finder and you can also hook up two cables and make an antenna so you get better reception. I would recommend the 108mbps over the 54 mbps because the built in antenna works better and has a longer range.
